Abstract

Abstract We study the pure dephasing of two electrons confined in vertically coupled quantum dots, in which the presence of one electron confined in the double dot represents one qubit. We numerically evaluated the dephasing rates due to electrons coupling to both acoustic and optical phonons. Our numerically results show that the pure dephasing rates dependent on the separation between dots and the strength of electrons confinement. (© 2006 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)

Charge decoherence in laterally coupled quantum dots due to electron-phonon interactions

Vasileios N. Stavrou, Xuedong Hu

We investigate electron charge decoherence in a laterally coupled single-electron semiconductor double quantum dot through electron-phonon interaction. We analytically and numerically evaluate the relaxation and dephasing rates due to electron coupling to both acoustic and optical phonons, and explore the system parameter space in terms of interdot distance, strength of single-dot confinement, and interdot coupling strength. Our numerical results show that the electron scattering rates are strongly dependent on the strength of the electron confinement and the size of the system. In addition, although the most dominant factor that determines the charge decoherence rate is the energy splitting between the charge qubit states, the details of the double dot configuration are also very important.

Decoherence dynamics of two charge qubits in vertically coupled quantum dots

W. Ben Chouikha, S. Jaziri, R. Bennaceur

The decoherence dynamics of two charge qubits in a double quantum dot is investigated theoretically. We consider the quantum dynamics of two interacting electrons in a vertically coupled quantum dot driven by an external electric field. We derive the equations of motion for the density matrix, in which the presence of an electron confined in the double dot represents one qubit. A Markovian approach to the dynamical evolution of the reduced density matrix is adopted. We evaluate the concurrence of two qubits in order to study the effect of acoustic phonons on the entanglement. We also show that the disentanglement effect depends on the double dot parameters and increases with the temperature.

Pure dephasing dynamics of two charge qubits

W. Ben Chouikha, S. Jaziri, R. Bennaceur

We study the effect of pure dephasing on the entanglement of two charge qubits. The pure dephasing is due to the dephasing between two states of two electrons confined in double quantum dot (no relaxation). We evaluate the concurrence in order to quantify the evolution of the degree of entanglement. We show that the pure dephasing due to the interaction with acoustic phonons led to complete disentanglement.

Phonon‐induced disentanglement of confined excitons

Katarzyna Roszak, Paweł Machnikowski, Lucjan Jacak

Abstract We show that phonon‐induced pure dephasing of excitons in quantum dots, which leads only to partial decay of system coherence, may completely erase entanglement between two excitons. We also discuss the role of the distance between the subsystems for this disentanglement process. (© 2006 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)

Transport through coupled quantum dots

Tobias Brandes

Abstract A brief survey of theoretical activities on electronic transport in coupled charge qubits is given. Some subtleties of the double quantum dot model (infinite bias, infinitely strong Coulomb blockade) are pointed out, and the motivation behind using ac‐field, noise and entanglement as a probe for testing transport in a simple setting is discussed. Decoherence and quantum entangled exciton states in semiconductor quantum dot molecule

A. Hichri, S. Jaziri, R. Ferreira

Recently a pair of vertically aligned quantum dots has been suggested as optically driven quantum gate. The later is built when two different particles, an electron and a hole, are created optically. The two particles form entangled states. We study theoretically the dynamics of a single heavy hole exciton confined in a small vertically coupled quantum dot. We use harmonic potentials to model the confining of electrons and holes and calculate the exciton's energy spectrum using the Hund-Mulliken approach, and including the Coulomb interaction. The entanglement may be controlled by the application of external electric field. At certain times of dynamical evolution one can generate a maximally entangled coherent exciton state by initially preparing the quantum dots in a superposition of coherent state. In ideal situations, entangled quantum states would not decohere during processing and transmission of quantum information. However, a real quantum system is inevitably influenced by its environment. Since, we study the decoherence effect caused by the interaction of the confined carriers with the acoustic phonon effects. (© 2004 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
