Zeno dynamics of von Neumann algebras

Andreas U Schmidt

The dynamical quantum Zeno effect is studied in the context of von Neumann algebras. We identify a localized subalgebra on which the Zeno dynamics acts by automorphisms. The Zeno dynamics coincides with the modular dynamics of that subalgebra, if an additional assumption is satisfied. This relates the modular operator of that subalgebra to the modular operator of the original algebra by a variant of the Kato–Lie–Trotter product formula.

ABSTRACT. The dynamical quantum Zeno effect is studied in the context of von Neumann algebras. We identify a localized subalgebra on which the Zeno dynamics acts by automorphisms. The Zeno dynamics coincides with the mod-ular dynamics of that subalgebra, if an additional assumption is satisfied. Quantum Zeno Effect in Bloembergen’s three level maser

Rajib Kumar Dubey

The Quantum Zeno effect is the phenomenon of inhibition of transition between quantum states by frequent measurements. The term Quantum Zeno effect (QZE) was originally introduced by E.C.G.Sudarshan and it may be applied to explain various transitions. In the present work we discuss the essential features of Bloembergen’s three level maser and its connection with Quantum Zeno effect.
