Abstract

Considering the spatio-temporal problem of the parametric generation process, we show theoretically that the down-converted fields exhibit, as a general rule, a hidden coherence characterized by skewed coherence lines alone specific space-time trajectories.

Hidden Coherence Along Space-Time Trajectories in Parametric Wave Mixing

Antonio Picozzi, Marc Haelterman

We show theoretically that the waves generated through the generic parametric three- or four-wave-mixing processes exhibit, as a general rule, a hidden coherence characterized by skewed coherence lines along specific space-time trajectories. Our study generalizes the concept of coherence in the sense that these previously unrecognized coherent states cannot be described through the standard definitions of spatial and temporal coherence.

Influence of walk-off, dispersion and diffraction on the coherence of parametric fluorescence in the (2+1)D geometry

Considering the (2+1)D-problem of parametric fluorescence from a plane-wave pump, we show analytically and numerically that the walk-off between the down-converted fields leads to spatio-temporal coherence whereas the diffraction leads to an incoherent dynamics.

X -shaped space-time coherence in optical parametric generation

Ottavia Jedrkiewicz, Matteo Clerici, Antonio Picozzi +2 more

We study the spatiotemporal coherence properties of superfluorescence radiation generated in optical parametric amplification of quantum noise. We show that the angular dispersion properties of the spatiotemporal spectra, measured in different phase-matching conditions, lead to a clear $X$-shaped structure of the mutual correlation function of the radiation. Within a statistical picture, we interpret the generated superfluorescence as a stochastic ``gas'' of quasistationary modes characterized by a skewed correlation in the spatiotemporal domain, with characteristics similar to linear and nonlinear $X$ waves not describable within a separable approach in space and time.

Influence of walk-off and dispersion on the coherence of parametric fluorescence

Antonio Picozzi, Marc Haelterman

Summary form only given. We consider the basic problem of spontaneous parametric generation from quantum noise fluctuations. Various experiments revealed that in the parametric fluorescence process a transition occurs between two regimes respectively characterized by the incoherence of the initial quantum noise and the coherence of the generated signal and idler fields. We investigate the mechanism responsible for the incoherence-to-coherence transition.

We study the spatiotemporal coherence properties of superfluorescence radiation generated in optical parametric amplification of quantum noise. We show that the angular dispersion properties of the spatiotemporal spectra, measured in different phase-matching conditions, lead to a clear XXX-shaped structure of the mutual correlation function of the radiation. Within a statistical picture, we interpret the generated superfluorescence as a stochastic ``gas'' of quasistationary modes characterized by a skewed correlation in the spatiotemporal domain, with characteristics similar to linear and nonlinear XXX waves not describable within a separable approach in space and time.
