A topological spin-statistics theorem or a use of the antiparticle

Abstract

A spin-statistics theorem for spinning particles in d is proved without using relativity or field theory, but assuming the existence of antiparticles. The theorem excludes nonabelian statistics such as parastatistics of order 2 and more for d ⩾ 3 and statistics based on nonabelian representations of the braid groups for d = 2.

SPIN–STATISTICS THEOREMS WITHOUT RELATIVITY OR FIELD THEORY

A. P. Balachandran, Alan Daughton, Z.-C. GU +3 more

Conventional proofs of the spin–statistics theorem either use relativistic quantum field theory or concern field theory solitons. We here construct new proofs of this theorem for spinning particles. They are extensions of previous work on spinless particles and require neither relativity nor field theory. They do, however, assume certain continuity conditions involving the existence of antiparticles. Non-Abelian statistics, such as parastatistics and braid statistics of order 2 or more, are excluded in our framework.

THE SPIN-STATISTICS THEOREM ON A CIRCLE

Charilaos Aneziris

Recently, there has been a certain interest in the statistics of identical particles on a one-dimensional space. In this paper we extend this discussion to a circle by allowing the existence of antiparticles in addition to particles, and to creation-annihilation processes. This leads to much more complicated possibilities for statistics due to the change of the appropriate fundamental group.

PARASTATISTICS: EXPERIMENTAL SUGGESTIONS CONNECTION WITH SPIN, AND TCP THEOREM, FOR A GENERAL FIELD THEORY

Gianfausto Dell’Antonio, Oscar Wallace Greenberg, E. C. G. Sudarshan

ABS>Use of a quantum field theory obeying parastatistics to treat free particles is further examined. Relativistic quantum field theories independent of locality are noted to hold for paralocal fields, and the TCP theorem is generalized to paralocal fields. The following generalization of the connection of spin and statistics is demonstrated: given the choice between parabose and parafermi statistics, integral spin flelds must obey parabose, and odd halfintegral spin fields must obey parafermi statistics (D.C.W.)

The existence of antiparticles seems to forbid violations of statistics

A. B. Govorkov

I try to prove the impossibility of small violations of Fermi- and Bose-statistics even within the nonlocal quantum field theory corresponding to the infinite statistics. The existence of antiparticles plays the crucial role in this proof.

Generalized Spin-Statistics Theorem

Lauri Suoranta

We derive the spin-statistics theorem in both relativistic and non-relativistic first-quantized form, extending considerably the earlier proofs. Our derivation is based on the representation theories of the groups SU (2) and SL(2,C), latter being the universal covering of the Lorentz group. We define the identity of particles. We include theories that have an internal symmetry group. We discuss consistency of the non-relativistic limit.
