Correlated percolation with long-range interactions

Abstract

We study the critical behavior of the q-state Potts model with long-range interactions decaying asymptotically as \ensuremath{\sim}${R}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}(d+\ensuremath{\sigma})}$ in the presence of random-${T}_{c}$ impurities correlated over large distances such that the correlations fall off as \ensuremath{\sim}${R}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}(d\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}a)}$, a<d. We find that the renormalization-group scaling equations have a new fixed point in the appropriate double \ensuremath{\epsilon}, x expansion, where \ensuremath{\epsilon}=3\ensuremath{\sigma}-d and x=a-\ensuremath{\sigma}. This fixed point, however, is never both stable and physical.

Critical amplitudes for correlated percolation

Bosiljka Tadić, R. Pirc

We consider the q-state Potts model with correlated random interactions such that their correlations decay at large distances as \ensuremath{\sim}${R}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}(d\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}a)}$. Applying the renormalization group and a double (\ensuremath{\epsilon},${\ensuremath{\epsilon}}_{a}$) expansion, we derive the scaling form of the equation of state to linear order in \ensuremath{\epsilon}=6-d and ${\ensuremath{\epsilon}}_{a}$=a-2. In the limit q\ensuremath{\rightarrow}1, which describes correlated percolation, the critical amplitudes ${A}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}$ associated with the mean number of clusters F\ensuremath{\sim}${A}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}$\ensuremath{\Vert}t${\ensuremath{\Vert}}^{2\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\alpha}}$ are shown to diverge when \ensuremath{\alpha} approaches a negative integer as a function of ${\ensuremath{\epsilon}}_{a}$.

Critical behavior of theq-state Potts model with correlated random fields

Bosiljka Tadić, R. Pirc

We study the critical behavior of the q-state Potts model in the presence of quenched random fields, which locally prefer ordering of any one of the q states, and are long-range correlated such that [H(0)H(R${)]}_{\mathrm{av}\mathrm{\ensuremath{\sim}}{R}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}(d\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\theta})}}$. We find a stable critical behavior controlled by a new random fixed point, and obtain a set of critical exponents within the \ensuremath{\epsilon}\ifmmode \tilde{}\else \~{}\fi{} expansion (\ensuremath{\epsilon}\ifmmode \tilde{}\else \~{}\fi{}=8+\ensuremath{\theta}-d), which cannot be related to those of a pure Potts model of lower dimensionality.

Long-range correlated percolation

Abel Weinrib

This paper is a study of the percolation problem with long-range correlations in the site or bond occupations. An extension of the Harris criterion for the relevance of the correlations is derived for the case that the correlations decay as ${x}^{\ensuremath{-}a}$ for large distances $x$.. For $a<d$ the correlations are relevant if $a\ensuremath{\nu}\ensuremath{-}2<0$ (where $\ensuremath{\nu}$ is the percolation correlation-length exponent), while for $a>d$ the correlations are relevant if $d\ensuremath{\nu}\ensuremath{-}2<0$.. Applying this criterion to the behavior that results when the correlations are relevant, we argue that the new behavior will have ${\ensuremath{\nu}}_{\mathrm{long}}=\frac{2}{a}$.. It is shown that the correlated bond percolation problem is equivalent to a $q$-state Potts model with quenched disorder in the limit $q\ensuremath{\rightarrow}1$.. With the use of this result, a renormalization-group study of the problem is presented, expanding in $\ensuremath{\epsilon}=6\ensuremath{-}d$ and in $\ensuremath{\delta}=4\ensuremath{-}a$.. In addition to the normal percolation fixed point, we find a new long-range fixed point. The crossover to this new fixed point follows the extended Harris criterion, and the fixed point has exponents ${\ensuremath{\nu}}_{\mathrm{long}}=\frac{2}{a}$ (as predicted) and ${\ensuremath{\eta}}_{\mathrm{long}}=\frac{1}{11}(\ensuremath{\delta}\ensuremath{-}\ensuremath{\epsilon})$. Finally, several results on the percolation properties of the Ising model at its critical point are shown to be in agreement with the predictions of this paper.

Critical behavior of the p -component Potts model with correlated impurities

B. Stolan, Erling Pytte, G. Grinstein

The problem of critical behavior in systems with correlated random impurities has recently attracted a great deal of attention. For the $m$-component Heisenberg model, renormalization-group calculations using a novel double expansion predict second-order transitions described by a new random fixed point, whereas the usual single $\ensuremath{\epsilon}$ expansion leads to a runaway, often interpreted as a smeared transition. In this paper the corresponding results for the $p$-state Potts model with impurities which are perfectly correlated in certain directions are presented. (For $p\ensuremath{\le}2$ the pure Potts model has a continuous transition; $p=1$ corresponds to the percolation problem.) In this case the new random fixed point is, in direct contrast to the $m$-component Heisenberg situation, never both physical and stable. Thus for the Potts model the runaway obtained in the single $\ensuremath{\epsilon}$ expansion persists. For sufficiently strong disorder the runaway is always obtained, even above the upper critical dimension where the Gaussian fixed point is (locally) stable. We speculate that the runaways may be symptomatic of a "smearing" of the phase transition by the strongly correlated impurities.

Random Ising model with long-range interactions

Alba Theumann

The critical properties of a random Ising model with long-range isotropic interactions decaying as R -(d+ sigma ) are analysed by using renormalisation group methods in an expansion in epsilon '=2 sigma -d, where d is dimensionality. For epsilon '>O the critical behaviour is described by a stable fixed point O( epsilon 1 2/') in the physical region of parameter space. The crossover to short-range behaviour is analysed and takes place when sigma =2+ epsilon /106, epsilon =4-d>O. There is then a small region O< sigma -2<O( epsilon ) where the system is still dominated by long-range behaviour. The results for d=1 are compared with those obtained previously for the random hierarchical model and it is found that the two models do not show the same critical behaviour in the epsilon ' expansion.

Short-time dynamics of spin systems with long-range correlated quenched impurities

Yuan Chen, Zhibing Li

The theoretic renormalization-group approach is applied to the study of short-time critical behavior of the $d$-dimensional spin systems (model A) in the presence of quenched impurities with a long-range correlations decaying as ${r}^{\ensuremath{-}(d\ensuremath{-}\ensuremath{\rho})}$. The asymptotic scaling laws are studied in the frame of a double expansion in $ϵ=4\ensuremath{-}d$ and $\ensuremath{\rho}$ with $\ensuremath{\rho}$ of order $ϵ$. In $d<4$, the initial slip exponents ${\ensuremath{\theta}}^{\ensuremath{'}}$ of the magnetization and $\ensuremath{\theta}$ of the response function, are calculated up to two-loop order. The crossover between fixed points is obtained. The long-time limit of the fluctuation-dissipation ratio is found in the aging regime, and its connection to equilibrium quantities is discussed. The comparison of our results with those of other systems without long-range correlated quenched impurities is also investigated.
