Abstract

We propose and demonstrate a scheme to stably generate quadrature-entangled optical pulses using a ring interferometer composed of an optical parametric amplifier and a dispersive media. The entangled light pulses at telecommunication wavelength are generated by combining two squeezed beams. In our scheme, the relative phase between the two beams is kept stable by the ring interferometer and is controllable using dispersive media. The amplitude and phase quadratures of the entangled beams are measured using two time-domain pulsed homodyne detectors. When the relative phase is fixed at $\ensuremath{\pi}/2$, we verify the inseparability of the states by a sufficient criterion $⟨{\ensuremath{\Delta}}^{2}[{\stackrel{\ifmmode \hat{}\else \^{}\fi{}}{X}}_{a}({\ensuremath{\phi}}_{0})+{\stackrel{\ifmmode \hat{}\else \^{}\fi{}}{X}}_{b}(\ensuremath{\pi}\ensuremath{-}{\ensuremath{\phi}}_{0})]⟩+⟨{\ensuremath{\Delta}}^{2}[{\stackrel{\ifmmode \hat{}\else \^{}\fi{}}{X}}_{a}({\ensuremath{\phi}}_{0}^{\ensuremath{'}})\ensuremath{-}{\stackrel{\ifmmode \hat{}\else \^{}\fi{}}{X}}_{b}(\ensuremath{-}{\ensuremath{\phi}}_{0}^{\ensuremath{'}})]⟩=0.64<1$ where ${\ensuremath{\phi}}_{0}^{\ensuremath{'}}\ensuremath{-}{\ensuremath{\phi}}_{0}=\ensuremath{\pi}/2$.

Pulsed homodyne detection of quadrature entanglement at telecommunication wavelength

Yujiro Eto, Akihiro Nonaka, Yun Zhang +2 more

We report on the generation of quadrature entangled light pulses at the telecommunication wavelength of 1.535 μm by combining two squeezed pulses. The quadrature phase amplitudes of the entangled light pulses are measured by using two time‐domain pulsed homodyne detectors, which yield one pair of measurement values by single‐shot measurement for each pulse. The entanglement is confirmed with a sufficient criterion 〈Δ[x̂a+x̂b]2〉+〈Δ[p̂a−p̂b]2〉 = 0.64<1.

Robust generation of bright two-color entangled optical beams from a phase-insensitive optical parametric amplifier

Xiaomin Guo, Jun-Jun Zhao, Yongmin Li

Bright two-color continuous variable (CV) entangled optical beams at 0.8 and 1.5 μm are generated by utilizing a phase-insensitive optical parametric amplifier with only 1.5 μm signal field injected. Without locking the relative phase between the signal and pump fields, the amplitude quadrature difference squeezing of 3.30 dB and phase quadrature sum squeezing of 3.35 dB are observed, which satisfy the entanglement criterion. The demonstrated scheme here eliminates the necessity of precise phase control between the signal and pump fields and enables robust generation of two-color CV entangled states.

Experimental generation of broadband quadrature entanglement using laser pulses

Yun Zhang, Tatsuya Furuta, Ryuhi Okubo +2 more

We report on the generation of broadband pulsed quadrature entanglement by combining two squeezed vacua, which are generated from two degenerate optical parametric amplifiers (OPAs), on a beam splitter. With a single pass through OPA, in which a periodically poled lithium niobate waveguide is used as a nonlinear material, the noise reduction of $3.4\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.2$ dB below the shot noise limit is observed with a bandwidth of more than 200 MHz. The entanglement correlation or EPR correlation is confirmed with a sufficient criterion $⟨{\ensuremath{\Delta}}^{2}({X}_{a}+{X}_{b})⟩+⟨{\ensuremath{\Delta}}^{2}({Y}_{a}\ensuremath{-}{Y}_{b})⟩=1.28<2$.

Generation of continuous variable quantum entanglement using a fiber optical parametric amplifier

Xueshi Guo, Nannan Liu, Yuhong Liu +2 more

We demonstrate the experimental generation of quadrature amplitude entanglement in the 1550 nm band by using a fiber optical parametric amplifier. The measured noise variances of the difference and sum of the quadrature amplitudes of the pulsed signal and idler twin beams fall below the shot noise limit by about 1 and 0.8 dB (4.2 and 3.6 dB after the correction for efficiency), respectively, showing that the inseparability criterion of Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen entanglement I<2 is satisfied. Our investigation reveals that the quality of the measured entanglement can be further improved by increasing the transmission efficiency of the twin beams and by optimizing the temporal mode matching of the two sets of homodyne detection systems.

Generation and homodyne detection of continuous-variable entangled optical beams with a large wavelength difference

Xiaomin Guo, Changde Xie, Yongmin Li

We present a scheme for generating and homodyne detecting of continuous-variable entanglement of bright optical beams with a large wavelength difference by utilizing an optical parametric oscillator (OPO) and an optical parametric amplifier (OPA) simultaneously. Entangled optical beams at 0.8 and 1.5 \ensuremath{\mu}m are generated from the OPA; the seed beams injected in the OPA as well as the local oscillators at the two wavelengths needed for homodyne detection are provided by the OPO. The entangler is a ring resonator involving a second-order nonlinear crystal that is pumped from two opposite directions. In one direction the pump power is above the oscillation threshold and the optical nonlinear resonator operates as an OPO. In the other direction the pump power is below the threshold and it operates as a phase-sensitive frequency nondegenerate optical parametric amplifier. Our scheme combines the advantages of both OPO and OPA quantum optical devices and opens another avenue for preparation and homodyne detection of high quality bright entangled light with a large wavelength difference.

Quadrature entanglement in the microwave domain with a phase locking protocol

Tianli Wei, Dewei Wu, Qiang Miao +1 more

Abstract Entanglement has attracted great attention in the past few decades due to its potential applications in the field of quantum information protocols. From now, achieving excellent phase locking in entanglement generation is significant yet a challenging task in cryogenic quantum technology. In this work, we propose and demonstrate a comprehensive paradigm of phase locking protocol for quadrature entanglement at the microwave wavelengths. We carry out a theoretical derivation of the quadrature entangled microwaves generated based on Josephson parametric amplifiers (JPAs), and the phase locking error signal, which is used to lock the relative phase of zero between the two quadrature squeezed microwaves. Simulating data for the phase locking scheme are shown under different parameter settings for comparison. Finally, we use the proposed phase locking scheme to enable a stable output of quadrature entangled microwave.
