Quantum Statistics for Distinguishable Particles

Abstract

Quantum statistics can be reconciled with such classical ideas as distinguishable particles. Bose-Einstein and Fermi-Dirac statistics are derived for distinguishable particles by making an assumption regarding probabilities which is different from the traditional assumption but equally reasonable.

On the existence of statistics intermediate between those of Fermi-Dirac and Bose-Einstein

Jeremy Dunning-Davies

Once again the possibility of the existence of particle statistics intermediate between those of Fermi-Dirac and Bose-Einstein surfaces. Here attention is drawn to the fact that some fifteen years ago it was shown that such so-called 'intermediate' statistics correspond to no physical process and the stationary probability distributions of intermediate statistics are not compatible with any mechanism which allows a variation between Fermi-Dirac and Bose-Einstein statistics.

QUANTUM STATISTICS AS DISTRIBUTION OF MAXIMUM UNCERTAINTY

M.C. Camargo

An intuitive meaning of Bose-Einstein and Fermi-Dirac statistics is obtained by maximizing gamma (uncertainty or randomness) as applied to the number of particles per cell probabilities in the mu phase space. (auth)

Qualitative Arguments concerning the Bose-Einstein Condensation of Fermion Pairs

John M. Blatt

A detailed, and quite complex, calculation has shown that the Fermi-Dirac statistics of the particles making up a “pair” or “molecule” does not interfere with, but rather aids, Bose-Einstein condensation of these pairs. In this paper, we present some simple qualitative arguments which we have found useful in understanding this result.

COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF CLASSICAL AND QUANTUM REPRESENTATIONS IN TEACHING PHYSICS

J. Abdullaev

The article provides a comparative analysis of classical and quantum statistics. The general properties and differences between the statistics of Maxwell and the statistics of Bose-Einstein, Fermi-Dirac from the methodological point of view are revealed

Derivation of the Energy-Distribution Formulas of Quantum Statistics

R. D. Cowan

The energy-distribution formulas of quantum statistics are derived in a way which treats all three cases (Bose-Einstein, Fermi-Dirac, and corrected Boltzmann) in a similar manner, so that the relationship of each case to the others is clear throughout the derivation. Stirling's formula for the factorial, which is of dubious applicability in the Fermi-Dirac case, is not required.

Statistical model describing Bose-Einstein and Fermi-Dirac statistics

Chi-Tau Yan

Beginning with the assumption that the quantum state of a many-particle system is a functional on the internal space of the particles, a unified quantum statistics, which may interpolate smoothly between Bose-Einstein and Fermi-Dirac statistics, is proposed. The commutation relations for such particle creation and annihilation operators are derived, and statistical partition function and thermodynamical properties of an ideal gas of the particles are investigated. Besides the Bose-Einstein condensation, another kind of particle condensation may appear.
