Nonlocality of a Single Photon Revisited

Lucién Hardy

A proposal to demonstrate the nonlocality of a single photon is described. This is accomplished without using inequalities, and in a way that brings out a very curious feature of quantum mechanics. Unlike the first proposal to investigate the nonlocality of a single photon due to Tan, Walls, and Collett, this proposal does not require supplementary assumptions, and therefore rules out the whole class of local hidden variable interpretations.

A Simple Field Theoretic Description of Single-Photon Nonlocality

Andrea Aiello

We present a simple yet rigorous field theoretic demonstration of the nonlocality of a single-photon field. The formalism used allows us to calculate the electric field of a single-photon light beam sent through a beam splitter, which directly demonstrates that it is the light field, rather than the photon itself regarded as a particle, that exhibits nonlocality. Our results are obtained without using either inequalities or specific measurement apparatuses, so that they have perfectly general validity.

Nonlocality of a single photon

S. M. Tan, Daniel F. Walls, Matthew J. Collett

We propose an experiment which demonstrates the nonlocal properties of a singe-photon field via phase-sensitive measurements. This is the first proposal which demonstrates nonlocality and a violation of Bell's inequality with a single photon rather than a correlated photon pair.
