Multicanonical Monte Carlo study and analysis of tails for the order-parameter distribution of the two-dimensional Ising model

Rudolf Hilfer A, Bibhu Biswal, Hans-Georg Mattutis +1 more

The tails of the critical order-parameter distribution of the two-dimensional Ising model are investigated through extensive multicanonical Monte Carlo simulations. Results for fixed boundary conditions are reported here, and compared with known results for periodic boundary conditions. Clear numerical evidence for "fat" stretched exponential tails exists below the critical temperature, indicating the possible presence of fat tails at the critical temperature. Our work suggests that the true order-parameter distribution at the critical temperature must be considered to be unknown at present.

Renormalized multicanonical sampling in multiple dimensions

Yong Hwan Lee, David O. Yevick

This paper extends to two and three dimensions the recently proposed renormalized multicanonical sampling procedure [D. Yevick, Int. J. Mod. Phys. C 27, 1650033 (2016)IJMPEO0129-183110.1142/S0129183116500339], which generates the density of states of a system from that of a smaller system. The accuracy and efficiency of the method is additionally enhanced through a transition matrix Monte Carlo method that incorporates multicanonical sampling. The performance of the resulting procedure is investigated through calculations of the specific heat of the standard Ising model for square lattices with up to 128^{2} spins and for cubic lattices with up to 24^{3} spins. A comparison of the scaling properties to those of other algorithms based on the transition matrix Monte Carlo method demonstrates that the relative advantage of the renormalized procedure increases rapidly with system size.

Evaluation of the very low BER of FEC codes using dual adaptive importance sampling

Ronald Holzlöhner, Amitkumar Mahadevan, Curtis R. Menyuk +2 more

We evaluate the error-correcting performance of a low-density parity-check (LDPC) code in an AWGN channel using a novel dual adaptive importance sampling (DAIS) technique based on multicanonical Monte Carlo (MMC) simulations, that allows us to calculate bit error rates as low as 10/sup -19/ for a (96,50) LDPC code without a priori knowledge of how to bias. Our results agree very well with standard MC simulations, as well as the union bound for the code.
