Abstract

By allowing for dissipative interaction between a quantum spin system and the environment we calculate the frequencies and decay rates of the components of the x spin polarization for a spin system precessing in a magnetic field when the spin system has dimensionality corresponding to S= ½,1,3/2 .PACS. Spin Polarization Oscillations and Coherence Time in the Random Interaction Approach

Pedro Pereyra

We study the time evolution of the survival probability and the spin polarization of a dissipative nondegenerate two-level system in the presence of a magnetic field in the Faraday configuration. We apply the Extended Gaussian Orthogonal Ensemble approach to model the stochastic system-environment interaction and calculate the survival and spin polarization to first and second order of the interaction picture. We present also the time evolution of the thermal average of these quantities as functions of the temperature, the magnetic field, and the energy-levels density, for ρ(ϵ)∝ϵs , in the subohmic, ohmic, and superohmic dissipation forms. We show that the behavior of the spin polarization calculated here agrees rather well with the time evolution of spin polarization observed and calculated, recently, for the electron-nucleus dynamics of Ga centers in dilute (Ga,N)As semiconductors.

Self-sustained spin precession in an optical tristable system

Masao Kitano, T. Yabuzaki, T. Ogawa

The dynamical behavior of a Fabry-Perot cavity filled with atoms having Zeeman sub-levels in the ground state is investigated. Such a system is known to exhibit optical tristability, where the atomic spins are oriented parallel or antiparallel to the optical axis even for the linearly polarized incident light. It is found that, when a static magnetic field is applied transversely to the optical axis, self-sustained precession of the spin polarization occurs. Correspondingly, the ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{+}$ and ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{\ensuremath{-}}$ components of the transmitted light are modulated at about the Larmor frequency. We also show that the Bloch equation describing the motion of the spin polarization in the cavity can be reduced to van der Pol's equation.

Spin polarization control via magnetic field in dissipative bosonic systems

Yaoyuan Fan, Shuoyu Shi, Lang Cao +4 more

Engineering spin polarization in dissipative bosonic systems is crucial for advancing quantum technologies, especially for applications in quantum metrology and space-based quantum simulations. This work demonstrates precise magnetic moment control in multicomponent Bose gases during evaporative cooling via tailored magnetic fields. By adjusting the magnetic field gradients, null point position, and duration, we selectively tune evaporation rates of magnetic sublevels, achieving targeted spin polarization. Theoretical models, validated by numerical simulations and Stern−Gerlach experiments, reveal how magnetic fields reshape trapping potentials and spin-dependent dissipation. The results establish a dissipative spin-selection mechanism governing polarization evolution in evaporatively cooled Bose gases and provide a framework for engineering spin-polarized quantum states.
