A Soluble Model of Semiclassical Bound State for Many-Body Systems: One-Dimensional Boson System

Abstract

We investigate a semiclassical quantization of time-dependent classical field for an exact soluble one-dimensional boson systems. The classical field equation admits the analytic solution of soliton type, by which the semiclassical bound state spectrum is evaluated which reproduces the exact quantum mechanical spectrum in good accuracy.

Semiclassics in a system without classical limit: The few-body spectrum of two interacting bosons in one dimension

Benjamin Geiger, Juan Diego Urbina, Quirin Hummel +1 more

We present a semiclassical study of the spectrum of a few-body system consisting of two short-range interacting bosonic particles in one dimension, a particular case of a general class of integrable many-body systems where the energy spectrum is given by the solution of algebraic transcendental equations. By an exact mapping between δ-potentials and boundary conditions on the few-body wave functions, we are able to extend previous semiclassical results for single-particle systems with mixed boundary conditions to the two-body problem. The semiclassical approach allows us to derive explicit analytical results for the smooth part of the two-body density of states that are in excellent agreement with numerical calculations. It further enables us to include the effect of bound states in the attractive case. Remarkably, for the particular case of two particles in one dimension, the discrete energy levels obtained through a requantization condition of the smooth density of states are essentially in perfect agreement with the exact ones.

Boson–fermion model with two-body interactions: Exact results

Y. Wang, Fu‐Cho Pu

A one-dimensional boson–fermion model with two-body interactions between the two types of chiral fermions is considered. It is shown that the model is exactly soluble and the general Bethe eigenstates are constructed. On the basis of the Bethe ansatz equations, the ground state, the low lying elementary excitations, and the thermodynamics are also given in some closed integral equations.

Yupeng Wang, Duo Jin

The one dimensional boson–fermion model is introduced and the general eigenstates of the model Hamiltonian are constructed. The Cooper-pairlike bound state is given. It is concluded that the present model is exactly soluble via the Bethe ansatz.

Harmonic oscillator field theory. I. Classical and semiclassical large-N limit

Ahmed A. Abouelsaood, A Abuelseoud

A field theoretical formulation of the rather easy problem of N identical, one-dimensional bosons, interacting pairwise via harmonic oscillator potentials of equal force constants is given, in a way similar to the way the nonlinear Schrodinger model provides a field theoretical formulation of a one-dimensional, delta -function Bose gas. The nonlinear integro-differential equation obtained for the complex scalar field of the model is treated classically, and solved in the semiclassical limit of a large number of particles. Working in the centre of mass frame of the field, a sequence of operators that would raise or lower the energy of a state by definite amounts without changing its particle number are constructed from certain bilinear expressions in the field. These operators have, in the limit of a large number of particles, commutation relations similar to those of the Fourier modes of a compact free field, except that the first mode is missing as a result of the fact that the field in the centre of mass frame is subject to the obvious constraint that its centre of mass always coincides with the coordinate origin. The quantum states can be labelled by the total centre of mass momentum, and the quasi-particle numbers in each of the independent oscillator modes. The energy spectrum of the system is calculated, giving the same results as the exact, quantum-mechanical N-body analysis.

Quantization rules for bound states in quantum wells

M. A. F. Gomes, Sadhan K. Adhikari

An algebraic reformulation of the Bohr - Sommerfeld (BS) quantization rule is suggested and applied to the study of bound states in one-dimensional quantum wells. The energies obtained with the present quantization rule are compared to those obtained with the usual BS and WKB quantization rules and with the exact solution of the Schrödinger equation. We find that, in diverse cases of physical interest in molecular physics, the present quantization rule not only yields a good approximation to the exact solution of the Schrödinger equation, but yields more precise energies than those obtained with the usual BS and/or WKB quantization rules. Among the examples considered numerically are the Poeschl - Teller potential and several anharmonic oscillator potentials, which simulate molecular vibrational spectra and the problem of an isolated quantum well structure subject to an external electric field.

Solitons in one-dimensional systems at the BCS-BEC crossover

Tianhao Ren, I. L. Aleǐner

We developed a comprehensive semiclassical theory of solitons in one-dimensional systems at the BCS-BEC crossover to provide a semiclassical explanation of their excitation spectra. Our semiclassical results agree well with the exact solutions on both the deep BCS and the deep BEC side and explain qualitatively the smooth crossover between them. Especially, we showed that the minimum energy of the $S=1/2$ excitation is achieved exactly at the Fermi momentum ${k}_{F}=\ensuremath{\pi}n/2$, where $n{m}_{F}$ (${m}_{F}$ is the mass of the fermionic atom) is the total mass density of the system. This momentum remains unchanged along the whole crossover whether the mass is contained in the bosonic molecules as on the deep BEC side or in the fermionic atoms as on the deep BCS side. This phenomenon comes about as a result of a special feature of one-dimensional systems that the conventional quasiparticle is not stable with respect to soliton formation. It is valid not only in exactly solvable models, but also on the level of semiclassical theory. Besides, we also resolved the inconsistency of existing semiclassical theory with the exact solution of solitonlike $S=0$ excitations on the deep BCS side by a different proposal of soliton configuration.
