Asymmetry of the scattering amplitude of atoms in the field of short counterpropagating light pulses

V. I. Romanenko, Леонід Петрович Яценко

Rectification in bipotential scattering of a beam of atoms in the field of short pulses of traveling and standing waves is studied: As a result of the coherence induced by the traveling-wave pulse, the momentum transferred to the atomic beam during scattering by the standing wave is nonzero. The magnitude and sign of the asymmetry in the scattering amplitude are oscillatory functions of the duration of the traveling-wave pulse and the detuning of the frequency of the field from atomic resonance.

Superradiant Rayleigh scattering of high-intensity short light pulses from a Bose-Einstein condensate of dilute atomic gases

N. I. Shamrov

Equations of a semiclassical model of superradiant Rayleigh scattering of high-intensity short light pulses from a Bose-Einstein condensate of dilute atomic gases are solved numerically taking into account the excitation of atoms by coherent Rayleigh radiation and their recoil in the backward direction. The evolution of the populations of coherent atomic states with a particular momentum is studied, and the pulse shape and the structure of the spectrum of such scattering are found in relation to the laser beam intensity and the recoil kinetic energy of atoms.

Stimulated scattering of focused light beams

Alexander A. Betin, Guerman A. Pasmanik

The quasioptics approximation is used to study the stimulated scattering of focused light beams. The correlation function and the increment of the scattered radiation are found and conditions are formulated for the spatial coherence of the stimulated-scattering field. Special features of the stimulated scattering of short light pulses, focused in a nonlinear medium, are considered.
