Open Quantum Random Walks (OQRW) were introduced as completely positive maps on an appropriate Hilbert space. The OQRW on the line is shown to give raise to a non-classical Pascal triangle, that stresses the rich dynamical behavior of these walks. Implications and further applications of the OQRW are discussed.
Abstract. We study open quantum random walks (OQRW) for which the underlying graph is a lattice, and the generators of the walk are translation-invariant. Using the results obtained recently in [5], we study the quantum trajectory associated with the OQRW, which is described by a position process and a state process. We obtain a central limit theorem and a large deviation principle for the position process. We study in detail the case of homogeneous OQRWs on a lattice, with internal space h = C2. 1
Quantum Markov chains (QMCs) and open quantum random walks (OQRWs) represent different quantum extensions of the classical Markov chain framework. QMCs stand as a more profound layer within the realm of Markovian dynamics. The exploration of both QMCs and OQRWs has been a predominant focus over the past decade. Recently, a significant connection between QMCs and OQRWs has been forged, yielding valuable applications. This bridge is particularly impactful when studying QMCs on tree structures, where it intersects with the realm of phase transitions in models naturally arising from quantum statistical mechanics. Furthermore, it aids in elucidating statistical properties, such as recurrence and clustering. The objective of this paper centers around delving into the intricate structure of QMCs on Cayley trees in relation to OQRWs. The foundational elements of this class of QMCs are built upon using classical probability measures that encompass the hierarchical nature of Cayley trees. This exploration unveils the pivotal role that the dynamics of OQRWs play in shaping the behavior of the Markov chains under consideration. Moreover, the analysis extends to their classical counterparts. The findings are further underscored by the examination of notable examples, contributing to a comprehensive understanding of the outcomes.
Open quantum random walks (OQRWs) deal with quantum random motions on a line for systems with internal and orbital degrees of freedom. The internal system behaves as a quantum random gyroscope coding for the direction of the orbital moves. We reveal the existence of a transition, depending on OQRW moduli, in the internal system behaviors from simple oscillations to random flips between two unstable pure states. This induces a transition in the orbital motions from the usual diffusion to ballistically induced diffusion with a large mean free path and large effective diffusion constant at large times. We also show that mixed states of the internal system are converted into random pure states during the process. We touch upon possible experimental realizations.
