Control of photodetachment through a two-color low-frequency field

Abstract

We propose a photodetachment scheme for observing interference effects caused by the simultaneous action of a two-color low-frequency field with commensurate frequencies during the photodetachment event. By changing the relative phase of the low-frequency fields, considerable modifications are found to occur in the angular distributions of the photoelectrons as well as in their energy spectra. Some properties of the photoelectron angular distributions are discussed, and the extension of the energy spectra as a function of the low-frequency radiation parameters is evaluated.

Control of multiphoton radiative recombination through the action of two low-frequency fields

Saverio Bivona, R. Burlon, G. Ferrante +1 more

Interference effects caused by the simultaneous action of a two low frequency fields with commensurate frequencies during laser assisted radiative recombination (LARR) are investigated theoretically. Varying the relative phase of the two fields the following LARR features may be controlled: a) location of the maxima in the total emitted power; b) enhancement of the total emitted power; c) polar shape of the differential emitted power; d) shape of the emitted power spectra.

Study on properties of the two-photon ionization photoelectron spectra by frequency-modulated fields

Yongfang Li

Properties of the two-photon ionization photoelectron spectra in excitation-ionization scheme by frequency-modulated fields are studied by means of perturbation theory and numerical calculation method. The influences on the photoelectron spectra by the modulated amplitude, the modulated frequency, and the initial phase of the frequency-modulated field and the detuning are discussed under strong-field mechanism. It is shown that the photoelectron spectra can be modulated by the modulated amplitude, the modulated frequency, the initial phase and the detuning.Quantum control of the photoelectron spectra can be realized by those parameters.Mechanism of quantum coherent control in this system is monitoring the selective population of dressed states(SPODS).

Threshold effects and photoelectron spectra in model-system descriptions of photodetachment

Stanley L. Haan, P. A. Polstra, W. H. Schotanus +1 more

Near-threshold single-photon photodetachment processes are considered for simple model systems representing negative ions exposed to monochromatic radiation. The model systems considered feature an initial discrete state, the photoelectron continuum, and in some cases an excited or autodetaching discrete state. Population trapping through the formation of a bound dressed state and the photoelectron spectra are examined. Two photoelectron spectra are defined : a primary spectrum which results from decay while the laser interaction is on and a secondary spectrum which results from the destabilization of the bound dressed state if the interaction is turned off again. Careful attention is given to the passage of the poles of the Green's operator through the low-energy boundary of a continuum, and it is concluded that such poles move nonmonotonically through the boundary of an s-wave continuum, but monotonically through the boundary of a p-wave or higher-l-wave continuum. Two example systems, one featuring a single discrete state and an s-wave continuum and one featuring two discrete states and a p-wave continuum, are considered in detail.

A comment on the validity of an approximation method for two-colour photodetachment

Saverio Bivona, R. Burlon, C Leone

We show that by using the approximation method of Bivona et al , two-colour photodetachment cross sections are obtained that behave according to the Wigner threshold law even if the dressing effect of the low-frequency radiation field on the bound state is ignored. Within the range of the low frequency and intensity of the radiation field considered, it is found that the values of the cross sections calculated by using the field-free bound state are not significantly modified when the corrections to the wavefunction of the bound state due to the driving action of the low-frequency field are accounted for.

On angular coherent control of photocurrent caused by photoionization in a bichromatic laser field

V A Pazdzersky, V I Usachenko, A V Ushnurtsev

A novel kind of coherent control of various atomic and molecular photoprocesses proceeding in a bichromatic electromagnetic (EM) laser field, angular coherent control , is proposed and demonstrated here theoretically by studying the particular case of negative-ion photodetachment in the field of a linearly polarized fundamental laser frequency and its second harmonic of arbitrary spatial configuration and orientation of the unit polarization vectors e 1 and e 2 of the respective harmonic fields. Due to the inherent spatial asymmetry of the applied bichromatic field, the ejection of detached photoelectrons is also generally asymmetric in respect of the detached photoelectron momentum replacement p →- p . As follows from our gauge-invariant analytical calculations within the framework of perturbation theory on EM interaction and a zero-range potential model for the negative ion, this field asymmetry results in a photocurrent, the magnitude and direction of which are strongly dependent on both the relative phase shift Φ between the harmonics of the ionizing bichromatic field and on the angle θ between the polarization vectors e 1 and e 2 . The latter strong dependence on the angle θ is the background for angular control of the direction and magnitude of the produced photocurrent by means of an appropriate choice and proper adjustment of the angle between the polarization vectors of the incident bichromatic field harmonics.

Strong-field ionization of diatomic molecules in orthogonally polarized two-color fields

Mingming Liu, Meng Han, Peipei Ge +3 more

We study the control of ionization dynamics of aligned ${\mathrm{N}}_{2}$ and ${\mathrm{O}}_{2}$ molecules in orthogonally polarized two-color (OTC) fields and calculate the photoelectron momentum distributions of molecules by solving the time-dependent Schr\"odinger equation and with a semiclassical model. In contrast with that of atoms in the OTC field, we show that the photoelectron momentum distribution is essentially dependent on the molecular outmost orbital, the alignment angle, and the phase of the OTC field. We illustrate the controlling of the molecular frame photoelectron angular distributions and the temporal and spatial double-slit interference effect for strong-field ionization of ${\mathrm{N}}_{2}$ molecules. For ${\mathrm{O}}_{2}$ molecules, it is shown that the ionization wave packets are splitting. The temporal and spatial double-slit interference effect is always present for ${\mathrm{O}}_{2}$, which is not able to be turned off using the OTC field. This work would have implications for probing molecular structures with a two-color synthesized laser field.
