Abstract

For the first time, we experimentally and theoretically research about the probe transmission signal (PTS), the reflected four wave mixing band gap signal(FWM BGS) and fluorescence signal (FLS) under the double dressing effect in an inverted Y-type four level system. FWM BGS results from photonic band gap structure. We demonstrate that the characteristics of PTS, FWM BGS and FLS can be controlled by power, phase and the frequency detuning of the dressing beams. It is observed in our experiment that FWM BGS switches from suppression to enhancement, corresponding to the switch from transmission enhancement to absorption enhancement in the PTS with changing the relative phase. We also observe the relation among the three signals, which satisfy the law of conservation of energy. Such scheme could have potential applications in optical diodes, amplifiers and quantum information processing.

Six wave mixing process in photonic band gap

Abstract For the first time, we have experimentally and theoretically researched the double dressing effect on the six wave mixing photonic band gap signal (SWM BGS), probe transmission signal (PTS) and fluorescence signal (FLS) in an inverted Y-type four level atomic system. We investigate the characteristics of the SMW BGS, PTS and FLS, which can be controlled by beam, power and detuning. At the same time, the relative phase which is caused by the incident angle of dressing beams plays a vital role in modulating the intensity of the SWM BGS, PTS and FLS. Such a scheme has potential applications in optical diodes, amplifiers and quantum information processing.

Optical processes of photonic band gap structure with dressing field in atomic system

Yun-Zhe Zhang, Zhe Liu, Kang-Ning Cai +4 more

We experimentally investigate probe transmission signals (PTS), the four-wave mixing photonic band gap signal (FWM BGS), and the fluorescence signal (FLS) in an inverted Y-type four level atomic system. For the first time, we compare the FLS of the two ground-state hyperfine levels of Rb 85. In particular, the second-order and the fourth-order fluorescence signals perform dramatic dressing discrepancies under the two hyperfine levels. Moreover, we find that the dressing field has some dressing effects on three such types of signals. Therefore, we demonstrate that the characteristics of PTS, FWM BGS, and FLS can be controlled by frequency detunings, the powers or phases of the dressing field. Such research could have potential applications in optical diodes, amplifiers, and quantum information processing.

Interplay between six wave mixing photonic band gap signal and second-order nonlinear signal in electromagnetically induced grating

Zhiguo Wang, Mengqin Gao, Zakir Ullah +4 more

For the first time, we experimentally and theoretically research about the second-order nonlinear signal (SNS) including electromagnetically induced absorbing (EIA) and electromagnetically induced gain (EIG), six wave mixing band gap signal (SWM BGS) resulting from photonic band gap structure in an inverted Y-type four level system with the electromagnetically induced grating. The interplay between the SNS and SWM BGS is illustrated clearly for the first time. When we change the frequency detuning to make the SWM BGS and SNS overlap, the SWM BGS is suppressed and the intensity of SNS is strongest near the resonance point. We can control the intensity of the SWM BGS and EIG caused by the classic effect through changing the power of coupling field. And the changes on the EIA generated by the quantum effect are obtained by changing the power of dressing field. Since the SWM BGS is the enhancement of the four wave mixing band gap signal (FWM BGS), when we set FWM BGS as the input and SNS as the modulation role to control the amplification amplitude for the FWM BGS in our scheme, the adjustable optical amplifier can be obtained.

Phase Modulation of Photonic Band Gap Signal

Zhiguo Wang, Mengqin Gao, Abdul Rasheed Mahesar +1 more

We first investigate the probe transmission signal (PTS) and the four wave mixing band gap signal (FWM BGS) modulated simultaneously by the relative phase and the nonlinear phase shift in the photonic band gap (PBG) structure. The switch between the absorption enhancement of PTS and the transmission enhancement of PTS with the help of changing the relative phase and the nonlinear phase shift is obtained in inverted Y-type four level atomic system experimentally and theoretically. The corresponding switch in PTS can be used to realize all optical switches. On other hand, the relative phase and the nonlinear phase shift also play the vital role to modulate the intensity of FWM BGS reflected from the PBG structure. And it can be potentially used to realize the optical amplifier.

Observation of triple-dressing on photonic band gap of optically driven hot atoms

Dan Zhang, Zhiguo Wang, Mengqin Gao +4 more

We experimentally investigate transmission of the probe field, the reflected four-wave mixing photonic band gap signal, and fluorescence signal in a five-level atomic system. In addition, we compared the single-dressing, double-dressing, and triple-dressing on the three types of signals. These three types of signals can be controlled by frequency detunings, powers, and relative phases of the dressing beams. Such a scheme could have potential applications in amplification processing of triode and quantum information processing.

Modulated photonic band gaps generated by high-order wave mixing

Mengqin Gao, Zhiguo Wang, Zakir Ullah +4 more

For the first time, to the best of our knowledge, we investigate the photonic band gap (PBG) structure through scanning the frequency detunings of the probe field, the dressing field, and the coupling field in the static and moving electromagnetically induced grating (EIG) field. When we scan the frequency detuning of the coupling field, the PBG structure and six-wave-mixing band gap signal (SWM BGS) appear at the right of the electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) position. But the PBG structure and SWM BGS appear at the left of the EIT position in the case of scanning the probe field frequency detuning. Also, on the condition of scanning the probe field frequency detuning, the SWM BGS appears in two frequency ranges. Moreover, in the moving PBG structure, nonreciprocity of the SWM BGS can be obtained. Furthermore, the intensity, width, and location of the SWM BGS can be modulated through changing the frequency detunings and intensities of the probe field, the dressing field, and the coupling field; the sample length; and the frequency difference of coupling fields in EIG. Such a scheme could have potential applications in optical diodes, amplifiers, and quantum information processing.
