Two-photon spectroscopy of mercury and velocity-selective double resonances

Thomas Beyer, Daniel Kolbe, Martin Scheid +2 more

Two-photon laser spectroscopy of the $6\text{ }{^{1}S}_{0}\ensuremath{-}7\text{ }{^{1}S}_{0}$ transition in mercury has been performed using two copropagating continuous-wave laser beams. One laser beam is at 254 nm wavelength and can be tuned to the $6\text{ }{^{1}S}_{0}\ensuremath{-}6\text{ }{^{3}P}_{1}$ resonance. The other laser beam is at 408 nm. Two very different regimes can be distinguished, one far off resonance and one near resonance with the one-photon resonance. A resonance which is not Doppler broadened has been observed for low Rabi frequencies. This velocity-selective double resonance in a three-level ladder system is analogous to the dark resonance in three-level $\ensuremath{\Lambda}$ systems.

All-Optical Tuning of Indistinguishable Single Photons Generated in Three-Level Quantum Systems

Łukasz Dusanowski, Chris Gustin, Stephen Hughes +2 more

Resonance fluorescence of two-level quantum systems has emerged as a powerful tool in quantum information processing. Extension of this approach to higher-level systems provides new opportunities for quantum optics applications. Here we introduce an all-optical tuning functionality into a well-established resonance fluorescence coherent driving scheme. We accomplish this by resonant excitation of a three-level ladder system with two laser fields utilizing Autler-Townes and ac Stark effects. We propose theoretically and demonstrate experimentally the feasibility of this approach toward all-optical spectral tuning of quantum-dot-based single-photon sources and investigate photon indistinguishability and purity levels. Our tuning technique allows for fast optical control of the quantum emitter spectrum which paves the way toward temporal and spectral shaping of the single photons, formation of topological Floquet states, or generation of high-dimensional frequency-encoded quantum states of light.

Two-photon processes in four levels system

Ong D

Optically pumped FIR lasers give only discrete spectrums. This property restricts the practical use of lasers. Since 1977, many research works have been done to tune the output frequency of FIR laser, of which some are tried to find the possibility of tuning the laser lines by changing the pumping frequency continuously. But it is not easy to get an accurate result due to the complexity of theoretical calculation especially for quantum system of more than three energy levels. In this research work, two photon processes in four levels system have been studied by means of graph theory, which was developed by T. A. DeTemple et al. It was found that the output frequency of optically pumped FIR laser could be tuned with a frequency range equal to the frequency difference of two FIR transition frequencies. The tuning curves of FIR frequency and the curves of system gain coefficient vs. pump detuning frequencies were given.
