Abstract

A Migdal-Kadanoff real-space renormalisation group procedure is used to treat the critical properties of the quenched bond-mixed spin- 1 / 2 Heisenberg ferromagnet on the simple cubic lattice. Within a very simple framework, the authors obtain quite reliable results for the critical temperatures. In addition, a general method for renormalising arbitrary clusters in Heisenberg spin- 1 / 2 magnets is outlined.

Critical properties of site-diluted Heisenberg and Ising magnets

Andrzej Komoda, Andrzej Pękalski

A simple modification of the real-space renormalisation group method is used to discuss critical behaviour of site diluted spin- 1 / 2 Ising and Heisenberg ferromagnets in two and three dimensions. The critical parameters and critical exponents are evaluated, and are shown to be in good agreement with the exact results and series calculations for site-diluted Ising ferromagnets on the square and triangular lattices. Good values of the critical parameters have also been obtained for the site-diluted Heisenberg and Ising models in two and three dimensions using the Migdal-Kadanoff approximation (1976).

Criticality of the D=2 bond-dilute anisotropic Heisenberg ferromagnet

Ananias M. Mariz, Constantino Tsallis, A. O. Caride

The authors discuss the critical frontier and critical exponents associated with the quenched bond-dilute quantum anisotropic spin- 1 / 2 Heisenberg ferromagnet in square lattice. To perform the calculations, they extend (and analyse in some detail) an approximate real-space renormalisation group framework recently developed by some of the authors for the pure model. Whenever comparison with available exact results is possible, the agreement is either perfect or quite satisfactory. Some effort has been dedicated to the extraction of the main asymptotic behaviour of the critical frontier. Also several interesting quantum effects appearing in the composition laws of (Heisenberg) bond arrays are exhibited.

A renormalisation group treatment of the diluted spin-1/2Heisenberg ferromagnet

Robin B. Stinchcombe

The bond-diluted spin- 1 / 2 Heisenberg ferromagnet is treated by a position-space renormalisation group method. The method is briefly outlined and results are presented for one, two and three dimensions. The results include exponents and, for three-dimensional systems, the dependence of the transition temperature T c on concentration p.

Anisotropic cubic lattice Potts ferromagnet: renormalisation group treatment

L. R. da Silva, Constantino Tsallis, Georges Schwachheim

Within a real space renormalisation group framework, the authors discuss the criticality of the full anisotropic (arbitrary J x , J y and J z )q-state Potts ferromagnet in the simple cubic lattice. Several previously known exact results for the d=1 and d=2 particular cases are recovered. Furthermore they obtain: (i) the q-dependence of the d=3 correlation length critical exponent nu 3 (in particular, if q to 0, nu 3 (q) approximately nu 3 (0)+ nu 3 '(0)q where the present approximate values are nu 3 (0) approximately=1.105 and nu 3 '(0) approximately=-0.66); (ii) the q-dependence of the d=2 to or from d=3 crossover critical exponent phi 23 (in particular, phi 23 varies as 1/ square root q if q to 0); (iii) through a convenient numerical extrapolation, a quite accurate proposal for the critical temperatures corresponding to arbitrary ratios, J y /J x and J z /J x and values of q.

Critical behavior of the anisotropic Heisenberg model by effective-field renormalization group

J. Ricardo de Sousa, I. P. Fittipaldi

A real-space effective-field renormalization-group method (ERFG) recently derived for computing critical properties of Ising spins is extended to treat the quantum spin-1/2 anisotropic Heisenberg model. The formalism is based on a generalized but approximate Callen–Suzuki spin relation and utilizes a convenient differential operator expansion technique. The method is illustrated in several lattice structures by employing its simplest approximation version in which clusters with one (N′=1) and two (N=2) spins are used. The results are compared with those obtained from the standard mean-field (MFRG) and Migdal–Kadanoff (MKRG) renormalization-group treatments and it is shown that this technique leads to rather accurate results. It is shown that, in contrast with the MFRG and MKRG predictions, the EFRG, besides correctly distinguishing the geometries of different lattice structures, also provides a vanishing critical temperature for all two-dimensional lattices in the isotropic Heisenberg limit. For the simple cubic lattice, the dependence of the transition temperature Tc with the exchange anisotropy parameter Δ [i.e., Tc(Δ)], and the resulting value for the critical thermal crossover exponent φ [i.e., Tc≂Tc(0)+AΔ1/φ ] are in quite good agreement with results available in the literature in which more sophisticated treatments are used.

Critical properties of the diluted classical Heisenberg ferromagnet

Robin B. Stinchcombe

A position-space renormalisation group method is outlined for the bond-diluted classical isotropic Heisenberg ferromagnet. Exponents for the low-temperature critical behaviour of the correlation length are calculated, and are shown to be related to exponents for dilute resistor networks.
