Electron concentration and on-site interaction effects for the spin and charge excitation spectra in the two-dimensional Hubbard model

Taiichirou Saikawa, A. Ferraz

Electron concentration and on-site interaction effects for spin and charge excitations in the two-dimensional Hubbard model are investigated. Using the auxiliary boson approach, which takes into account the spin and charge fluctuation effects, we derive an effective model which reproduces qualitatively well electronic states for the weak- and intermediate-coupling Hubbard models. The spin response function shows drastic changes as a function of the interaction and of the electron concentration. For the intermediate coupling regime, the Stoner enhancement around $\mathbf{q}=(\ensuremath{\pi},\ensuremath{\pi})$ and the spin-density-wave-like collective mode are obtained. In contrast, the charge response function does not have any specific structure for this interaction range. Finally, the electron concentration dependence of the zero sound velocity is discussed for the weak-coupling regime. The zero sound mode is shown to have a specific doping dependence that is associated with the existence of a hopping in the lattice.

Spin and charge response to magnetic frustration in the Hubbard model

Yang Liu

Unusual normal-state properties of strongly correlated electron materials have been discovered in recent years. They can not be explained by traditional theories. Much work has been devoted to exploring the physical insight into these properties. In the dissertation, the study of spin and charge response to magnetic frustration in the Hubbard Model is presented. Using exact diagonalization techniques, the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of a two-dimensional Hubbard model applied to a cluster with periodic boundary conditions have been obtained. Static and dynamic spin and charge correlation functions as well as one-particle excitation spectra have been calculated. The effects of magnetic frustration due to geometrical competition of different electron hopping terms are studied for various doping and short-range Coulomb interaction parameters. The calculated results are discussed in the framework of many-body physics.

Dynamical-quantum-cluster approach to two-particle correlation functions in the Hubbard model

S. Hochkeppel, Fakher F. Assaad, Werner R. Hanke

We investigate the charge- and spin-dynamical structure factors for the two-dimensional one-band Hubbard model in the strong coupling regime within the dynamical cluster approximation (DCA) that is explicitly extended to two-particle response functions. The full irreducible two-particle vertex with three momenta and frequencies is approximated by an effective vertex dependent on the momentum and frequency of the spin and/or charge excitation. In the spirit of the DCA, the effective vertex is calculated by using the quantum Monte Carlo methods on a finite cluster. On the basis of a comparison to high temperature auxiliary field quantum Monte Carlo data, we show that near and beyond optimal doping, our results provide a consistent overall picture of the interplay between charge, spin, and single-particle excitations.
