Path integral for a three body problem

Abstract

A one dimensional three body problem is treated by the path integral approach of Feynman. When expressed in suitable coordinates, it is possible to extract the symmetry from the path integral of the problem. The resulting propagator is evaluated in a closed analytical form.

Path integration of a three body problem

Dinkar C. Khandekar, S. V. Lawande

Path integration for a one dimensional three body problem is discussed. This involves essentially the path integration of a Lagrangian in plane polar coordinates with a potential energy term depending on both the radial and angular coordinates.

Many-body diffusion and path integrals for identical particles

L. F. Lemmens, F. Brosens, J. T. Devreese

For distinguishable particles it is well known that Brownian motion and a Feynman-Kac functional can be used to calculate the path integral (for imaginary times) for a general class of scalar potentials. In order to treat identical particles, we exploit the fact that this method separates the problem of the potential, dealt with by the Feynman-Kac functional, from the process which gives sample paths of a noninteracting system. For motion in one dimension, we emphasize that the permutation symmetry of the identical particles completely determines the domain of Brownian motion and the appropriate boundary conditions: absorption for fermions, reflection for bosons. Further analysis of the sample paths for motion in three dimensions allows us to decompose these paths into a superposition of one-dimensional sample paths. This reduction expresses the propagator (and consequently the energy and other thermodynamical quantities) in terms of well-behaved one-dimensional fermion and boson diffusion processes and the Feynman-Kac functional.

The propagator for the infinite potential barrier is calculated by means of the Lagrangian path integral. This solution uses an image-point method equivalent to a sum over classical paths. The propagator is evaluated in a closed form, and from this propagator we obtained the momentum eigenstates and possible energy levels of a particle under the influence of an infinite potential barrier.

Adelic Path Integrals for Quadratic Lagrangians

Goran S. Djordjević, Branko G Dragovich, Ljubiša Nešić

Feynman's path integral in adelic quantum mechanics is considered. The propagator [Formula: see text] for one-dimensional adelic systems with quadratic Lagrangians is analytically evaluated. Obtained exact general formula has the form which is invariant under interchange of the number fields ℝ and ℚp.

Solution of one-dimensional motion of a particle in a constant force field

Yong Wang

Based on the equivalence between momentum representation and coordinate representation,an alternative method is presented, where the momentum representation and the Feynman's path integral are employed to calculate the propagator function of a particle in a constant force field, then the result is transformed into the coordinate representation. We present a way to solve the Feynman's path integral, which exhibits the high value of momentum representation if the solution of one- dimensional motion of a particle in a constant force field.

Path integrals in polar coordinates

A. M. Arthurs

Abstract The problem of summation over Feynman histories in polar coordinates is discussed. Ordinary rules of calculus are used in conjunction with a Hamiltonian approach to the summation over histories. The procedure is checked by evaluating the propagator for a free particle in two dimensions.
