Monte Carlo Simulations on Slow Dynamics in 3-Dimensional ± J Heisenberg Spin Glass

Abstract

Slow dynamics in the 3-dimensional isotropic Heisenberg spin glass (SG) model is investigated by Monte Carlo simulations. The spin autocorrelation function exhibits an exponential decay multiplied by an algebraic factor. The relaxation time of the exponential decay obeys the conventional dynamical scaling with T = 0 transition. However, the behaviour of the algebraic prefactor is rather peculiar, which may be regarded as one of the SG properties inherent in the model.

Dynamical critical phenomena in three-dimensional Heisenberg spin glasses

Mitsuhiro Matsumoto, Koji Hukushima, Hajime Takayama

Spin-glass (SG) and chiral-glass (CG) orderings in three-dimensional (3D) Heisenberg spin glass with and without magnetic anisotropy are studied by using large-scale off-equilibrium Monte Carlo simulations. A characteristic time of relaxation, which diverges at a transition temperature in the thermodynamic limit, is obtained as a function of the temperature and the system size. Based on the finite-size-scaling analysis for the relaxation time, it is found that in the isotropic Heisenberg spin glass, the CG phase transition occurs at a finite temperature, while the SG transition occurs at a lower temperature, which is compatible with zero. Our results of the anisotropic case support the chirality scenario for the phase transitions in the 3D Heisenberg spin glasses.

Dynamics of the Heisenberg Spin Glass Model in the `Griffiths Phase': Analysis by the Distribution Function of Relaxation Times of Individual Spins

Hajime Takayama, Hajime Yoshino

We have carried out Monte Carlo simulation on the 3-dimensional isotropic ± J spin glass model, by which the distribution function of relaxation times P (τ) is extracted from autocorrelation functions of all individual spins in the system. The obtained P (τ) gives clear evidence for the cluster dynamics due to the Griffiths singularity in a spin glass system as well as for the crossover between the cluster dynamics and the critical dynamics associated with the spin glass transition at T c (=0).

Dynamical aspects of a three-dimensional Heisenberg spin glass

Hikaru Kawamura, Koji Hukushima

Spin-glass and chiral-glass orderings of a three-dimensional isotropic Heisenberg spin glass are studied both by equilibrium and off-equilibrium Monte Carlo simulations with emphasis on their dynamical aspects. The model is found to exhibit a finite-temperature chiral-glass transition without the conventional spin-glass order. Although chirality is an Ising-like quantity from symmetry, universality class of the chiral-glass transition appears to be different from that of the standard Ising spin glass. In the off-equilibrium simulation, while the spin autocorrelation exhibits only an interrupted aging, the chirality autocorrelation persists to exhibit a pronounced aging effect reminiscent of the one observered in the mean-field model.

Dynamical Simulation of Spin-Glass and Chiral-Glass Orderings in Three-Dimensional Heisenberg Spin Glasses

Hikaru Kawamura

Spin-glass and chiral-glass orderings in three-dimensional Heisenberg spin glasses are studied with and without random magnetic anisotropy by dynamical Monte Carlo simulations. In the isotropic case, clear evidence of a finite-temperature chiral-glass transition is presented. While the spin autocorrelation exhibits only an interrupted aging, the chirality autocorrelation persists to exhibit a pronounced aging effect reminiscent of the one observed in the mean-field model. In the anisotropic case, asymptotic mixing of the spin and the chirality is observed in the off-equilibrium dynamics.

Computer simulation of the three-dimensional short-range Heisenberg spin glass

J. A. Olive, A. P. Young, D. Sherrington

The results of large-scale Monte Carlo simulations on a nearest-neighbor Heisenberg spin-glass model are presented. We find that the transition is at zero temperature and that 3 is below the lower critical dimension. Relaxation times follow conventional dynamical scaling and diverge with a power of the temperature T as T\ensuremath{\rightarrow}0.

Critical Dynamics and Cluster Dynamics of the 3D ±JIsing Spin-Glass Model in Its `Griffiths Phase'

達雄 小森, Hajime Takayama

Non-exponential slow dynamics in the `Griffiths phase' of the three-dimensional (3D) ± J Ising spin-glass model is studied by means of Monte Carlo simulation. The distribution of relaxation times averaged over samples, \bar P ( x ) with x = lnτ, is calculated from spin auto-correlation functions simulated. It is found that \bar P ( x ) consists of two branches. The cross-over value between the branches, x c , diverges as T → T c , T c being the spin-glass transition temperature. Therefore τ c (= e x c ) is regarded as the critical relaxation time associated with the onset of the spin-glass order at T c , and the branch of \bar P ( x ) at x < x c is interpreted due to the ordinary critical slowing down process ( critical dynamics ). The other branch at x > x c causes the unusual slow dynamics peculiar to spin glasses. Various aspects of \bar P ( x ) of this branch examined are consistent with the following picture; compact regions with less frustrations than the system as a whole are thermally fluctuating with very small frequencies, and independently of each others ( cluster dynamics ).
