On the critical exponent γ for four common three-dimensional lattices

Abstract

The rational approximation method is used to examine the critical exponent for the susceptibility in the S= 1 / 2 Ising model on the face centred cubic (FCC), body centred cubic (BCC), simple cubic (SC) and diamond lattices. A variation of the method of critical point renormalisation is used to eliminate bias due to uncertainty in the location of the critical point. The results are in agreement with the renormalisation group and with recent series analysis of the BCC series.

On the variation of the critical exponent γ with spin

J. L. Gammel, D C Power

The rational approximation method is used to examine estimates for the first and second derivatives of the critical exponent of the Ising model with respect to a variable related to the spin on the three-dimensional body centred cubic lattice. A variation of the method of critical point renormalisation is used to eliminate bias due to uncertainty in the location of the critical point. The results support the concepts of universality of gamma with respect to the spin.

The critical index of the magnetic susceptibility of 3D Ising models

Peter R. Graves-Morris

Series expansions for certain thermodynamic variables have been computed for various standard model lattices. The high-temperature series for the magnetic susceptibility of the Ising model of three-dimensional SC, BCC and FCC lattices allows estimates of the critical index gamma of each series to be made. Dramatic progress in this direction was made by the Pade Dlog method, and here a similar technique is introduced. Estimates of gamma from row sequences of generalised inverse vector-valued Pade approximants are made. The results point to the conclusion that gamma =1.2406+or-0.0017 is the critical index common to all three lattices.

Extended high-temperature series for the classical Heisenberg model in three dimensions

Sati McKenzie, Cyril Domb, D L Hunter

Extended series expansions are derived for the high-temperature susceptibility of the classical Heisenberg model, on three-dimensional lattices. Series coefficients are presented to twelfth order for the simple cubic (SC) and face centred cubic (FCC) lattices and to eleventh order for the body centred cubic (BCC) lattice. The results are in agreement with earlier calculations apart from a small discrepancy at the tenth order on the FCC lattice. Extrapolation studies on the extended series are used to obtain revised estimates for the critical points (K c ) and the susceptibility exponent ( gamma ). On the FCC lattice, the authors also investigate the possibility of a confluent non-analytic correction to the dominant singularity. While the coefficients are consistent with the presence of such a correction term with an exponent ( Delta 1 ) of 0.55, as predicted by renormalisation group (RG) calculations, the amplitude of the correction term appears to be very small compared with that of the first analytic correction term.

Critical temperatures of the d=3, s=1/2Ising model; the effect of confluent corrections to scaling

Joan Adler

Much attention has been paid to the d=3, s= 1 / 2 Ising model on the BCC lattice in recent years because the best high-temperature series expansions were available for this lattice. However, in order to compare series estimates of critical exponents and temperatures with independent evaluations via the Monte Carlo method, lattices of lower coordination number must be considered, since Monte Carlo studies are usually made on these. A study of extant susceptibility series on the FCC, SC, diamond and tetrahedron lattices is reported on and some comments are made on aspects of recent Monte Carlo analyses of the d=3, s= 1 / 2 Ising model on the SC and diamond lattices.

Determination of critical behaviour in lattice statistics from series expansions II

Colin J. Thompson, Anthony John Guttmann, Barry William Ninham

Low temperature Ising model series in the usual variable z = exp(−4J/kT) are analysed. The positions of the singularities in the disk|z| <or=|zc| and the values of the corresponding critical exponents are determined for the simple cubic, body-centred cubic and face-centred cubic lattices. We obtain the following estimates of the physical critical exponents: β = 0312 ± 0002 for the simple cubic and face-centred cubic lattices, and β = 0312 ± 0004 for the body-centred cubic lattice. γprime = 131 ± 002 for the simple cubic lattice, γprime = 128 ± 004 for the body-centred cubic lattice, and γprime = 13 ± 01 for the face-centred cubic lattice. For the low temperature specific heat exponent we obtain fraction one-sixteens <or= αprime <or= ¼.
