Abstract : Formulae are given which permit the evaluation of some basic characteristics of a mono-pulse quantum generator (laser) connected to an interferometer in relation to population inversion, pumping power, mirror reflectivity, and other parameters.
Abstract : On the basis of the probability method and the resonator theory, it is possible to explain the basic properties of quantum generators of light and in a number of the most important cases to obtain quite accurate correlation with experiment. During use of probability method of calculation, energy levels and probability of transition between them are used as initial data. The main problem is reduced to determination of populations of separate levels depending upon intensity of irradiation, with subsequent calculation of number of optical transitions. In quantum generators it is necessary to consider transitions between levels which appear under the action of pumping radiation, as well as under action of the generated radiation itself.
Abstract : The authors calculate the emission produced by a generator-amplifier system with allowance for their mutual influence (i.e., the feedback between the generator and the amplifier), for different parameters of the active medium and of the resonator. The properties of such a system are compared with those of a system in which the quantum generator and the quantum amplifier are considered separately, so as to determine the region of parameters in which the feedback must be taken into account. The calculation is based on energy relations with allowance for the dependence of the gain of the active medium on the radiation density. The investigation shows that the mutual influence of the generator and the amplifier in such a compound system must be taken into account if the amplifier length is shorter than or equal to the length of the driver generator, or when the amplifying section is long but the reflection coefficients are close to the threshold values.
This paper describes a model and provides the mathematical formulation for describing the spike pulsing phenomenon observed in optically pumped three-level lasers. The model is based on the pumping of electrons from a ground state to an excited pump band from which they relax very rapidly to the excited laser level. With population inversion then achieved, laser action starts and repetitive pulses with decreasing amplitude are generated; the pulses then damp out and the laser output reaches a steady state as long as sufficient pump radiation energy is available. The equations describing the system in terms of the population inversion and photon density are nonlinear. However, approximations are made which permit the required relations between the transition rates to be established for such action to progress. The time variation of the population inversion and the photon density at the laser frequency are obtained for both the pumping time interval and the stimulated emission laser region.
A mathematical model describing the dynamic emission of intracavity polarized isotropic Cr 4+ :YAG solid--state saturable absorber was developed. This model considers double pumping laser pulses to simulate the actions of Cr 4+ :YAG as a dual Q-switched crystal (1.06 µm) and lasing medium (1.4 µm).The model describes the time evolution of interaction between the pumping laser pulse, partial polarizer and the polarized saturable absorber. The analysis of the polarization process is based on the assumption that at each moment of lasing evolution, the state of polarization represented by an eigenstate corresponds to the lowest radiation losses state. The model offers a simple mechanism for studying the kinetics of the pulsed lasers and the influence of the variations of the pumping laser power and nonlinear anisotropy parameter on the characteristics of the output laser pulses 1.06 µm and 1.4 µm.The angular rotation of the passive switch Cr 4+ :YAG reveals that the transmission of the polarized 1.06 µm laser radiation is strongly anisotropic in the saturation regime. The suggested model estimates the transmission of pumping laser density of the polarized light 1.06 µm radiation as a function of nonlinear anisotropy parameter, temporal behavior of the relative population inversion of Nd-laser, population inversion of the different polarized levels of Cr 4+ :YAG pulsed laser and the output laser pulse densities under impact of different values of the nonlinear anisotropy which is due to the self-induced anisotropy of its saturated absorption.
The features of the pump dynamics of isomeric nuclei excited by X-rays of a repetitively pulsed relativistic electron beam followed by the production of a medium with the negative absorption of gamma quanta are analysed. In the extended nuclear medium, the pump excites a travelling hidden-population-inversion wave with the anisotropic gamma amplification, which becomes positive in the case of the excess over the critical pump parameter equal to the product of the peak spectral power density of the X-ray source and the relative duration of an ultrashort relativistic electron bunch. In the alternative scheme with orthogonal directions of pumping X-rays and a flux of amplified gamma quanta, the absence of the amplification anisotropy opens up the possibility for constructing a standard two-mirror resonator with Bragg single-crystal reflectors. The critical peak value of the spectral pump power density is compared with the known characteristics of relativistic-electron X-ray sources by examples of some nuclides.
