Polarization-sensitive coherent control of atomic collisions with nonclassical light

Dmitriy V. Kupriyanov, Igor M. Sokolov, A. V. Slavgorodskii

In this paper we consider the mechanism of coherent control of atomic collisions by two-photon excitation of colliding atoms with nonclassical light characterized by polarization entanglement. Such modification of the well-known optical-collision method is proposed as a possible spectroscopic application of nonclassical light for study of collisional dynamics. We show that quantum correlations allow one to have a deeper control of the internal dynamics of atomic collision than do the principles of classical statistics. Our qualitative discussion is supported by numerical calculations made for ${}^{1}{S}^{1}{P}^{1}S$ optical transition of Mg perturbed by collisions with rare-gas atom.

Effect of lattice boundary on Anderson localization of nonclassical light in optical waveguide arrays

Shubradeep Majumder, Amit Rai, Gautam Vemuri

Abstract We study the effect that the boundary of a one-dimensional lattice has on the Anderson localization of nonclassical light in a finite optical waveguide array in which neighboring waveguides are evanescently coupled and controlled disorder is introduced. By investigating the quantum properties of the output when nonclassical light is injected into the waveguide, we show enhancements of localization and quantum features due to the boundary.

Quantum temporal imaging of antibunching

Junheng Shi, Giuseppe Patera, D. B. Horoshko +1 more

We consider transformation of quantum intensity correlations of light, observed by direct photodetection, by a single-lens temporal imaging scheme with magnification factor M . We prove that such an imaging scheme performs noiseless stretching or contraction of the second-order intensity correlation function without deteriorating such nonclassical features as antibunching and sub-Poissonian statistics of the photons. We also evaluate the photocurrent fluctuation spectrum for the photodetection of nonclassical light and show that this temporal imaging scheme performs its noiseless scaling by magnification factor M without adding any noise. We illustrate our results by two examples of nonclassical light sources: sub-Poissonian laser as a continuous-wave macroscopic nonclassical light source exhibiting antibunching and sub-Poissonian statistics of photons and single-photon source as its pulsed counterpart possessing similar nonclassical features. Our results open interesting possibilities for noiseless control of temporal and spectral characteristics of nonclassical light and can find numerous practical applications in quantum optics and quantum information.
