The Application of Multisim in Superconductive Electronics

Fengbin Song

To investigate the properties of the Josephson junction and its related circuits,a model of Josephson junction in Multisim has been created. Both the DC(Direct Current) Josephson effect and AC(Active Current) Josephson effect are testified using the model in Multisim.Subsequently,we observe a quasi-periodic motion in the Josephson junction by studying chaotic behaviors of the resistively-capacitively-inductively shunted junction.Besides,we investigate the characteristics of Shapiro steps in chaos and its special effect under thermal noises. Finally, rapid single flux quantum circuit is constructed to convert DC pulse to SFQ(Single Flux Quantum). The simulation results show that the model is powerful so that it can produce valuable predictions in the research of the Josephson junction, which plays an important role in analyzing and designing a superconductive device.

Enhanced AC Josephson Effect in YBa2Cu3O7-δ Junctions Driven by Two RF Sources

Cornelis Koster, Jian Chen, Hiroaki Myoren +3 more

Enhanced AC Josephson effect for YBa2Cu3O7-δ grain boundary Josephson junctions driven by two rf sources has been demonstrated. Maximum heights of the first Shapiro step have been obtained and are in good agreement with simulations based on the resistively shunted junction (RSJ) model.

HARMONIC GENERATION AND SUBMILLIMETER WAVE MIXING WITH THE JOSEPHSON EFFECT

Donald G. McDonald, V. Kose, K. M. Evenson +2 more

By observing constant-voltage steps from Josephson junctions at voltages as high as 17 mV we deduce that junctions can generate harmonics up to frequencies as high as 8200 GHz. In consonance with this, submillimeter wave laser detection, harmonic generation, and mixing are demonstrated. These results suggest a model for the upper frequency limit of the Josephson effect.
