Abstract

The aim of this paper is to study the squeezing and statistical properties of the light produced by a three-level laser whose cavity contains a parametric amplifier. We consider the case in which the top and bottom levels of the three-level atoms, in a cascade configuration, injected into the laser cavity are coupled by a strong coherent light. The maximum squeezing attainable in this quantum optical system is about 74%.

Coherently driven degenerate three-level laser with parametric amplifier

Tewodros Yirgashewa Darge, Fesseha Kassahun

We discuss the squeezing and statistical properties of the light produced by a coherently driven degenerate three-level laser with a parametric amplifier. We consider the case in which the atoms injected into the cavity are prepared in a coherent superposition of the top and bottom levels and with these levels coupled by the pump mode emerging from the parametric amplifier. It so happens that the presence of the parametric amplifier increases the squeezing and the mean photon number significantly. Furthermore, it is found that the maximum interacavity squeezing is 93% in the presence of the coupling and when the superposition has no contribution ( η = 0). On the other hand, the maximum interacavity squeezing turns out to be 94% in the absence of the coupling. This squeezing is due to the parametric amplifier and the superposition. In addition, our calculation shows that one effect of coupling the top and bottom levels is to decrease the mean and the normally-ordered variance of the photon number. Degenerate three-level laser with parametric amplifier and squeezed vacuum

Eyob Alebachew, K. Fesseha

Applying stochastic differential equations, we study the squeezing and statistical properties of the cavity and output modes of a degenerate three-level laser whose cavity contains a parametric amplifier and coupled to a squeezed vacuum reservoir. We consider the case in which the top and bottom levels of the three-level cascade atoms injected into the cavity are coupled by the pump mode emerging from the parametric amplifier. It turns out that the presence of the squeezed vacuum reservoir and the parametric amplifier contribute considerably to the mean photon number and the degree of squeezing of the cavity and output modes. It appears that almost perfect squeezing can be achieved at steady state and at threshold for a suitable choice of parameters.

Quantum properties of nondegenerate three-level laser coupled vacuum reservoir

Menisha Alemu

In this paper, we have studied the squeezing and statistical properties of the light produced by a three-level laser whose cavity contains a parametric amplifier, and with the cavity mode driven by coherent light and coupled to a vacuum reservoir. We obtain stochastic differential equations associated with the normal ordering using the pertinent master equation. By making use of the solutions to the resulting differential equations, we calculate the quadrature variances. We also determine the mean and variance of the photon number for the cavity mode by employing the Q function. It is found that the parametric amplifier increases the degree of squeezing, while the driving coherent light does not have any effect on the squeezing. Moreover, the mean photon number increases considerably due to the driving coherent light and the parametric amplifier.

Three-level laser dynamics with squeezed light

We seek to analyze, employing stochastic differential equations, the squeezing and statistical properties of the light generated by a three-level laser whose cavity contains a parametric amplifier. It is found that the effect of the parametric amplifier is to increase the intracavity squeezing by a maximum of 50%.

The Effects of Single-Mode Coherent and Squeezed Lights on Nondegenerate Three-level Laser

Edris Salih, M. Getahun

We consider a nondegenerate three-level laser in which the three-level atoms are in a cascade configuration, the laser cavity contains a degenerate parametric oscillator, and one of the cavity modes is driven by coherent light. We have analyzed the effects of the degenerate parametric oscillator and the driving coherent light on the laser using the expectation values of the cavity mode variables at a steady state. The results show that the two-mode light produced by the system under consideration exhibits quadrature squeezing. The presence of nonlinear crystal in the laser cavity generates a single-mode squeezed light and also enhances the degree of squeezing of the two-mode light.Although the driving coherent light has no effect on quadrature squeezing, it increases the intensity of the cavity modes.

Generation of Bright and Entangled Light from a Nondegenerate Three-Level Laser with Parametric Amplifier and Coupled to Thermal Reservoir

Tamirat Abebe, Chimdessa Gashu Feyisa, Ebisa Mosisa

The detailed analysis of the two-mode quadrature squeezing and statistical properties of light generated by a nondegenerate three-level laser which has a parametric amplifier and coupled with a thermal reservoir is executed. The combination of the master equation and the stochastic differential equation is presented to study the nonclassical features of the light generated by the quantum system. Moreover, with the aid the resulting solutions together with the correlation properties of noise operators, we calculated the quadrature squeezing, entanglement, and mean number of photon pairs of the cavity light. It is found that the external small-amplitude driving radiation induces a strong correlation between the top and bottom states of three-level atoms to produce a high degree of squeezing. Moreover, the presence of a parametric amplifier is found to enhance the degree of squeezing of the cavity light. We have also established that an increase in the mean thermal photon number appears to degrade the squeezing, but enhances the mean number of photon pairs of the cavity light.
