Affine Hecke algebras, reflection equation and boundary symmetries

Abstract

Solutions of the reflection equation for the Uq ( sln) case are obtained by implementing certain realisations of the affine Hecke algebra. The boundary non–local charges associated to nondiagonal solutions of the reflection equation are constructed systematically, and the symmetry of the corresponding open spin chain is investigated. We prove that the symmetry of the open spin chain is essentially a remnant of the Uq(gln) algebra.

On reflection algebras and twisted Yangians

Anastasia Doikou

It is well known that integrable models associated to rational R matrices give rise to certain non-Abelian symmetries known as Yangians. Analogously boundary symmetries arise when general but still integrable boundary conditions are implemented, as originally argued by Delius, Mackay, and Short from the field theory point of view, in the context of the principal chiral model on the half-line. In the present study we deal with a discrete quantum mechanical system with boundaries, that is the N site gl(n) open quantum spin chain. In particular, the open spin chain with two distinct types of boundary condition known as soliton preserving and soliton nonpreserving is considered. For both types of boundaries we present a unified framework for deriving the corresponding boundary nonlocal charges directly at the quantum level. The nonlocal charges are simply coproduct realizations of particular boundary quantum algebras called boundary or twisted Yangians, depending on the choice of boundary conditions. Finally, with the help of linear intertwining relations between the solutions of the reflection equation and the generators of the boundary or twisted Yangians we are able to exhibit the exact symmetry of the open spin chain, namely we show that a number of the boundary nonlocal charges are in fact conserved quantities.

Asymmetric Twin Representation: the Transfer Matrix Symmetry

Anastasia Doikou

The symmetry of the Hamiltonian describing the asymmetric twin model was partially studied in earlier works, and our aim here is to generalize these results for the open transfer matrix. In this spirit we first prove, that the so called boundary quantum algebra provides a symmetry for any generic -independent of the choice of model -open transfer matrix with a trivial left boundary. In addition it is shown that the boundary quantum algebra is the centralizer of the B type Hecke algebra. We then focus on the asymmetric twin representation of the boundary Temperley-Lieb algebra.More precisely, by exploiting exchange relations dictated by the reflection equation we show that the transfer matrix with trivial boundary conditions enjoys the recognized U q (sl 2 ) ⊗ U i (sl 2 ) symmetry. When a nondiagonal boundary is implemented the symmetry as expected is reduced, however again certain familiar boundary non-local charges turn out to commute with the corresponding transfer matrix.

A Q-Operator for Open Spin Chains II: Boundary Factorization

Alec Cooper, Bart Vlaar, Robert Weston

Abstract One of the features of Baxter’s Q-operators for many closed spin chain models is that all transfer matrices arise as products of two Q-operators with shifts in the spectral parameter. In the representation-theoretical approach to Q-operators, underlying this is a factorization formula for L-operators (solutions of the Yang–Baxter equation associated to particular infinite-dimensional representations). To extend such a formalism to open spin chains, one needs a factorization identity for solutions of the reflection equation (boundary Yang–Baxter equation) associated to these representations. In the case of quantum affine $$\mathfrak {sl}_2$$ sl 2 and diagonal K-matrices, we derive such an identity using the recently formulated theory of universal K-matrices for quantum affine algebras.

General boundary conditions for the and open spin chains

D. Arnaudon, Jean Avan, Nicolas Crampé +3 more

Two types of boundary conditions (‘soliton preserving’ and ‘soliton non-preserving’) are investigated for the and open spin chains. The appropriate reflection equations are formulated and the corresponding solutions are classified. The symmetry and the Bethe ansatz equations are derived for each case. The general treatment for non-diagonal reflection matrices associated with the ‘soliton preserving’ case is worked out. The connection between the ‘soliton non-preserving’ boundary conditions and the twisted (super-) Yangians is also discussed.

On quantum group symmetry and Bethe ansatz for the asymmetric twin spin chain with integrable boundary

Anastasia Doikou, Paul Martin

Motivated by a study of the crossing symmetry of the asymmetric twin or ‘gemini’ representation of the affine Hecke algebra we give a construction for crossing tensor space representations of ordinary Hecke algebras. These representations build solutions to the Yang–Baxter equation satisfying the crossing condition (that is, integrable quantum spin chains). We show that every crossing representation of the Temperley–Lieb algebra appears in this construction, and in particular that this construction builds new representations. We extend these to new representations of the blob algebra, which build new solutions to the boundary Yang–Baxter equation (i.e. open spin chains with integrable boundary conditions). We prove that the open spin chain Hamiltonian derived from Sklyanin’s commuting transfer matrix using such a solution can always be expressed as the representation of an element of the blob algebra, and determine this element. We determine the representation theory (irreducible content) of the new representations and hence show that all such Hamiltonians have the same spectrum up to multiplicity, for any given value of the algebraic boundary parameter. (A corollary is that our models have the same spectrum as the open XXZ chain with nondiagonal boundary—despite differing from this model in having reference states.) Using these multiplicity data, and other ideas, we investigate the underlying quantum group symmetry of the new Hamiltonians. We derive the form of the spectrum and the Bethe ansatz equations.
