Unification of the two different formulae for Relativistic-Increase of Energy of Matter-particles and Photons: And the Wave-Theoretical Insight emerging from the attempt

Abstract

While the experiments have shown similar wave-nature of matter-particles and photons, there are two different formulae for finding Relativistic-increase of energy of massive-particles and photons. This paper presents a unification of the two different formulae, in terms of Doppler-shifts of waves; leading to an insight that the ‘particles-of-matter’ seem to be the ‘standing-waves’; and de-Broglie’s ‘matter-waves’, and ‘quantum-mechanical-waves’ are ‘envelop-variations’ of the actual, more-fundamental waves.

What might the matter wave be telling us of the nature of matter

Daniel Shanahan

Abstract Various attempts at a thoroughly wave-theoretic explanation of matter have taken as their fundamental ingredient the de Broglie or matter wave. But that wave is superluminal, whereas it is implicit in the Lorentz transformation that influences propagate ultimately at the velocity c of light. It is shown that if the de Broglie wave is understood, not as a wave in its own right, but as the relativistically induced modulation of an underlying standing wave comprising counter-propagating ináuences of velocity c, the energy, momentum, mass and inertia of a massive particle can be explained from the manner in which the modulated wave structure must adapt to a change of inertial frame. With those properties of the particle explained entirely from wave structure, nothing remains to be apportioned to anything discrete or ìsolidîwithin the wave. Consideration may thus be given to the possibility of wave-theoretic explanations of particle trajectories, and to a deeper understanding of the Klein-Gordon, Schrˆdinger and Dirac equations, all of which were conceived as equations for the de Broglie wave.

Doppler Shift of the de Broglie Waves- Some New Results from Very Old Concepts

Sanchari De, Somenath Chakrabarty A

The Doppler shift of de Broglie wave is obtained for fermions and massive bosons using the conventional form of Lorentz transformations for momentum and energy of the particles. A formalism is developed to obtain the variation of wave length for de Broglie waves with temperature for individual particles using the classic idea of Wien in a many body Fermi gas or massive Bose gas.

Doppler Shifted “In” and “Out” Longitudinal Matter Waves as the Carriers of Particle Relativistic Momentum and Energy

Dan Wagner

Momentum and Kinetic Energy equations are developed from the hypothesis that oppositely directed components of harmonically oscillating pseudo standing waves pass through a quantum particle center and can be represented by Longitudinal Matter Waves that carry the particle’s momentum and energy. The Doppler effect on the component wave lengths allows the net forward momentum and kinetic energy to increase with speed well beyond classical values. De Broglie (1925) issues with stationary wavelength and moving pulse rate are resolved in a different manner. Because a quantum particle is considered to be nothing more than the sum of “in” and “out” matter waves focused through its center, whatever happens to these matter waves determines the future location of that center. This opens the door to physical explanations for gravity, interference, and the slowdown of light in transparent mediums. Gravity, for example, is shown in section 6, to possibly be caused by the local gradient in matter wave speed near a large body like earth.

The de Broglie Wave as Evidence of a Deeper Wave Structure

Daniel Shanahan

It is argued that the de Broglie wave is not the wave usually supposed, but the relativistically induced modulation of an underlying carrier wave that moves with the velocity of the particle. In the rest frame of the particle this underlying structure has the form of a standing wave. De Broglie also assumed the existence of this antecedent standing wave, but it would appear that he failed to notice its survival as a carrier wave in the Lorentz transformed wave structure. Identified as a modulation, the de Broglie wave acquires a physically reasonable ontology, evidencing a more natural unity between matter and radiation than might otherwise be contemplated, and avoiding the necessity of recovering the particle velocity from a superposition of such waves. Because the Schrödinger and other wave equations for massive particles were conceived as equations for the de Broglie wave, this interpretation of the wave is also relevant to such issues in quantum mechanics as the meaning of the wave function, the nature of wave-particle duality, and the possibility of well-defined particle trajectories.

Wave-Particle Duality Revitalized: Consequences, Applications and Relativistic Quantum Mechanics

Himanshu Chauhan, Swati Rawal, Ravindra Kumar Sinha

The proposed paper presents the unobserved inadequacies in de Broglie's concepts of wave-particle duality and matter waves in the year 1923. The commonly admitted quantum energy or frequency expression hν=γmc2 is shown to be inappropriate for matter waves and is acceptable only for photons. The superluminal phase velocity expression c2/\u{psion}, for matter waves, is investigated in detail and is also reported to be inadequate. The rectifications in the inadequate concepts of de Broglie's theory and refinements in the analogy implementation between light waves and matter waves are presented, which provides the modified frequency and phase velocity expression for matter waves. Mathematical proofs for the proposed modified frequency and phase velocity expression are also presented. In accordance with the proposed concepts, a wave-particle duality picture is presented which elucidates the questions coupled with the wave-particle duality, existing in the literature. Consequently, particle type nature is shown to be a characteristic of waves only, independent from the presence of matter. The modifications introduced in the frequency expression for matter waves leads to variation in the wave function expression for a freely moving particle and its energy operators, with appropriate justifications. A new relation between the Kinetic energy and Momentum of the moving body is proposed and is subsequently applied to introduce novel General and Relativistic Quantum Mechanical Wave Equations. Applications of these equations in bound state quantum mechanical systems provide the information regarding particle's general and relativistic behavior in such systems. Moreover, the proposed wave equations can also be transformed into Schrödinger's and Dirac's equations. The interrelation of Schrödinger's, Dirac's and proposed equations with the universal wave equation is also presented.

Dualistic relativity: Unification of Einstein’s Special Relativity and de Broglie’s Matter–Wave Theory

Xiaogang Ruan

In Hawking’s view physics has been broken up into many partial theories, while the ultimate goal of physicists is to unify them. The two basic theories of 20th-century physics, relativity theory and quantum theory, are based on completely different logical prerequisites and exactly separate: matter is described as particles in relativity theory and as waves in quantum mechanics. Here, based on the identical logical prerequisites, we unify Einstein’s special relativity (SR) and de Broglie’s matter-wave theory (MWT) into the theory of dualistic relativity (DR), taking a significant step toward the unification of relativity and quantum mechanics. From the definition of time, we derive the Lorentz transformation in differential form and establish the theory of DR, which generalizes the wave-particle duality of matter motion, and uniformly derives Einstein’s formula E=mc2, Planck’s equation E=hf, and de Broglie’s relation λ=h/p. From the logical prerequisite completely different from Einstein’s hypothesis of the invariance of light speed and along the logical path completely different from Einstein’s SR, we have deduced the whole theoretical system of Einstein’s SR and de Broglie’s MWT. In the theory of DR, the two great formulae originally separated, Einstein’s formula E=mc2 and Planck’s equation E=hf, become a pair of twin formulae unified in an identical theoretical system.
