One-dimensional magneto-optical compression of a cold CaF molecular beam

We demonstrate the one-dimensional, transverse magneto-optical compression of a cold beam of calcium monofluoride (CaF). By continually alternating the magnetic field direction and laser polarizations of the magneto-optical trap (RF MOT), a photon scattering rate of is achieved. A 3D model for this RF MOT, validated by agreement with data, predicts a 3D RF MOT capture velocity for CaF of 5 m s –1 .

Efficient transfer in a double magneto-optical trap system

T. B. Swanson, D. J. Asgeirsson, J. A. Behr +2 more

We demonstrate the transfer of potassium atoms from a vapor-cell type magneto-optical trap (MOT) to a second MOT up to 75 cm away with the use of a spatially narrow push laser that generates a 40-m/s atomic beam. By adding two-dimensional MOT’s (atomic funnels) along the transfer path to generate transverse cooling and compression of the beam, we can consistently transfer 78±10% of the atoms.

High Compression Blue-Detuned Magneto-Optical Trap of Polyatomic Molecules

Christian Hallas, Grace K. Li, Nathaniel B. Vilas +3 more

We demonstrate a blue-detuned magneto-optical trap (MOT) of a polyatomic molecule, calcium monohydroxide (CaOH). We identify a novel MOT frequency configuration that produces high spatial compression of the molecular cloud. This high compression MOT achieves a cloud radius of 59(5) μm and a peak density of 8(2)×10^{8} cm^{-3}. We experimentally compare several blue-detuned MOT schemes for CaOH and find good agreement between our data and Monte Carlo simulations.
