Optimizing Single-Photon Cooling

Vijay Pal Singh, A. Ruschhaupt

Single-photon cooling is a recently introduced method to cool atoms and molecules for which standard methods might not be applicable. We numerically examine this method in a two-dimensional wedge trap as well as in a two-dimensional harmonic trap. An element of the method is an optical dipole box trapping atoms irreversibly. We show that the cooling efficiency of the single-photon method can be improved by optimizing the trajectory of this optical dipole box.

Preparation of microwave single-photon states via a superconducting circuit

Yun‐Feng Xiao, Xu‐Bo Zou, Yong Hu +2 more

We propose a scheme for preparing a stationary microwave single-photon state of a transmission line resonator via off-resonant interaction with a single superconducting Cooper-pair Box (CPB). It is shown that with the help of an auxiliary microwave field, single-photon state can be persistently produced with high efficiency by using the CPB and cavity loss. The scheme is feasible with the current experimental technology and can be extended to prepare a multiphoton Fock state in a transmission line cavity.

Quantum switch for single-photon transport in a coupled superconducting transmission-line-resonator array

Jie‐Qiao Liao, Jin‐Feng Huang, Yu-xi Liu +2 more

We propose and study an approach to realize quantum switch for single-photon transport in a coupled superconducting transmission-line-resonator (TLR) array with one controllable hopping interaction. We find that the single photon with arbitrary wave vector can transport in a controllable way in this system. We also study how to realize controllable hopping interaction between two TLRs via a Cooper-pair box (CPB). When the frequency of the CPB is largely detuned from those of the two TLRs, the variables of the CPB can be adiabatically eliminated and thus a controllable interaction between two TLRs can be obtained.
