Higher-order squeezing of quantum field and higher-order uncertainty relations in non-degenerate four-wave mixing

Xi-Zeng Li, Su Bao-Xia, Chai Lu

It is found that the field of the combined mode of the probe wave and the phase conjugate wave in the process of non-degenerate four-wave mixing exhibits higher-order squeezing to all even orders. The higher-order squeezed parameter and squeezed limit due to the modulation frequency are investigated. The smaller the modulation frequency is, the stronger the degree of higher-order squeezing becomes. Furthermore, the higher-order uncertainty relations in the process of non-degenerate four-wave mixing are presented for the first time. The product of higher-order noise moments is related to even order number N and the length L of the medium.

Exciting relative number-squeezed particles from condensates using stimulated light scattering

David C K Roberts, Thomas Gasenzer, Keith R. Burnett

We investigate the relative particle number squeezing produced in the excited states of a weakly interacting condensate at zero temperature by stimulated light scattering using a pair of lasers. We shall show that a modest number of relative number-squeezed particles can be achieved when atoms with momentum k , produced in pairs through collisions in the condensate, are scattered out by their interaction with the lasers. This squeezing is optimal when the momentum k is larger than the inverse healing length, k > k 0 . This modest number of relative number-squeezed particles has the potential to be amplified in four-wave-mixing experiments.

Strong Relative-Intensity Squeezing of Light from Four-Wave Mixing in Hot Rb Vapor

Paul D. Lett, Vincent Boyer, Alberto M. Marino +2 more

We use nondegenerate four-wave mixing in hot atomic vapor to generate up to −7.1dB of relative-intensity squeezing between the probe and conjugate beams. This narrowband, multispatial-mode, squeezed light near an atomic resonance is of interest for image processing as well as experiments involving atomic ensembles.
