Temporal Behavior of Rabi Oscillation in Nanomechanical QED System with a Nonlinear Resonator

Xiao Xiao, Mingyue Zhao, Shu-Min 书敏 Yu 于 +1 more

Abstract In nanomechanical QED system, consisting of a charge qubit and a nanomechanical resonator with intrinsic nonlinearity, we study the temporal behavior of Rabi oscillation in the nonlinear Jaynes–Cummings model. Using microscopic master equation approach, we solve time evolution of the density operator describing this model. Also, the probability of excited state of charge qubit is calculated. These analytic calculations show how nonlinearity parameter and decay rates of two different excited states of the qubit-resonator system affect time-oscillating and decaying of Rabi oscillation.

Cooper Pair Box Coupled to a Current-Biased Josephson Junction

F. W. J. Hekking, O. Buisson, Franck Balestro +1 more

We study the dynamics of a quantum superconducting circuit which consists of a Josephson charge qubit, coupled capacitively to a current biased Josephson junction. Under certain conditions, the eigenstates of the qubit and the junction become entangled. We obtain the time evolution of these states in the limit of weak coupling. Rabi oscillations occur, as a result of the spontaneous emission and re-absorption of a single oscillation quantum in the junction. We discuss a possible way to experimentally determine the quantum state of the junction and hence observe the Rabi oscillations.

Quasiparticle decay rate of Josephson charge qubit oscillations

Roman M. Lutchyn, L. I. Glazman, A. I. Larkin

We analyze the decay of quantum oscillations in a charge qubit consisting of a Cooper pair box connected by a Josephson junction to a finite-size superconductor. We concentrate on the contribution of quasiparticles in the superconductors to the decay rate. Passing of a quasiparticle through the Josephson junction leads to the escape of the qubit out of its Hilbert space, and thus determines the decay rate of quantum oscillations. We find the temperature dependence of the quasiparticle contribution to the decay rate for open and isolated systems. The former case is realized if a normal-state trap is included in the circuit, or if just one vortex resides in the qubit; we find exponential suppression of the rate, $\ensuremath{\Gamma}\ensuremath{\propto}\mathrm{exp}(\ensuremath{-}\ensuremath{\Delta}∕T)$, at low temperatures (here, $\ensuremath{\Delta}$ is the superconducting gap). In a superconducting qubit isolated from the environment $\ensuremath{\Gamma}\ensuremath{\propto}\mathrm{exp}(\ensuremath{-}2\ensuremath{\Delta}∕T)$ if the number of electrons is even, while for an odd number of electrons the decay rate remains finite in the limit $T\ensuremath{\rightarrow}0$. We estimate $\ensuremath{\Gamma}$ for realistic parameters of a qubit.
