Generation of squeezing in two-photon three-level media

Sunghyuck An, Murray Sargent

We present a fully quantum-mechanical theory of nondegenerate four-wave mixing processes in three-level cascades with a two-photon pump. The results are applied to the generation of squeezed states of light. We find almost perfect squeezing for some strong pump intensities and tunings within the Rabi sidebands. We find good broadband squeezing for low pump intensities and tunings outside a small region around central tuning. Both cases avoid regions of significant spontaneous emission.

Theoretical Investigation of Phase Matching Schemes for Degenerate Four-Wave Mixing Spectroscopy

Thomas A. Reichardt, Robert P. Lucht

Degenerate four-wave mixing (DFWM) spectroscopy is a potentially powerful technique for quantitative measurement of minor species in gas-phase media [1-3]. In this paper we compare the DFWM signal levels and lineshapes obtained using two different phase-matching geometries: the phase-conjugate geometry and the forward phase-matched geometry. DFWM signal levels are calculated by solving the time-dependent density matrix equations using direct numerical integration (DNI) [4, 5] for a two-level system interacting with three laser beams. This numerical analysis includes the effects of molecular motion, intermolecular collisions, and high laser intensities, all of which have been shown to affect the DFWM signal level.

Two-photon resonance four-wave mixing spectroscopy in polar media

Georgi Borislavov Hadjichristov, M. Stamova, P. P. Kircheva

The effect of the permanent electric-dipole moments of polar media on the two-photon resonance four-wave mixing (TPR FWM) as described by chi (3) ( omega 4 = omega 1 - omega 2 + omega 3 ) is studied. The spectra corresponding to different processes of TPR FWM are modelled for a three-level system. It is demonstrated that the difference- and sum-frequency TPR FWM spectroscopy is sensitive to the difference between permanent dipole moments of the two levels coupled by the TPR.
