A note on the eigenvalues of S.π for spin-1 in a constant magnetic field

J. Jayaraman, M Antonius, B de Oliveira

Exploiting the intimate connection of the problem of a charged spin-1 particle in a homogeneous magnetic field to that of a harmonic oscillator, it is demonstrated that the eigenvalues of the matrix operator S. pi for spin-1 and for a constant magnetic field are governed by a Hermitian matrix defined on the space of the particle number n and spin and are thus constrained to be real for any intensity of the external magnetic field H, thereby contradicting a recent affirmation of Weaver (1978) that for n=0, complex eigenvalues are present for sufficiently intense magnetic fields. The errors in Weaver's analysis which have led to complex eigenvalues as well as to an excessive number of eigenvalues compared with that demanded by the spin degrees of freedom are pointed out.

Ultra-long-range Rydberg molecules exposed to a magnetic field

Igor Lesanovsky, Peter Schmelcher, H. R. Sadeghpour

We investigate the impact of an external magnetic field on ultra-long-range and ultracold Rydberg molecules. The Born–Oppenheimer potential surfaces are analysed and discussed for different values of the magnetic field strength. The magnetic field provides an angular confinement turning a rotational degree of freedom into a vibrational one. We explore the vibrational dynamics and observe a pronounced transition in the level spacing from a linear splitting via an irregular regime to a 2D harmonic oscillator-like behaviour. Scaling arguments for the dependence of the potential energy surfaces on the field strengths are provided. The occurrence of a monotonic lowering of the magnitude of the electric dipole moment with increasing magnetic field strength is shown.

The Mechanics of Finite-Freedom-Degree Harmonic Oscillator System

Li Hui

Finite freedom degree harmonic oscillator system is studied as follows: To begin with, its equation of motion is given and its solution is obtained by solving the equation, then the Lagrange and Hamiltan equations of motion of harmonic oscillator system are derived from variational principle. Further more, after harmonic oscillator system are quantized, we can also get its motion equation stem from the Heisenbergs Equation. In addition, classical mechanics and quantum mechanics are simultaneously applied to many kinds of conditions (including n dimensional states) of harmonic oscillator systems. Finally, the equivalence of canonical equation and Heisenbergs Equation to harmonic oscillator systems are verified.
