Yang–Baxter Algebras, Conformal Invariant Models and Quantum Groups

Hector J. de Vega

<!-- *** Custom HTML *** --> The Yang–Baxter algebras (YBA) are introduced and formulated in a general way stressing graphical methods. Their various physical applications are then exposed: lattice statistical models, integrable field theories and factorizable S-matrices. The Bethe Ansatz (BA) and its generalizations provide the explicit solutions of all these models using the appropiate YBA. The six-vertex model solution is exposed. YB algebras and their associated physical models are classified in terms of simple Lie algebras. It is exposed how these lattice models yield both solvable massive QFT and conformal models in appropiated scaling (continuous) limits within the lattice light-cone approach. The method of finite-size calculations from the BA is exposed as well as its applications to derive the conformal properties of integrable lattice models. It is conjectured that all integrable QFT and conformal models follow in a scaling limit from these YB algebras. To conclude braid and quantum groups are derived from the YBA in the limit of infinite spectral parameter.

Unifying structures in quantum integrable systems

Anjan Kundu

Basic concepts of quantum integrable systems (QIS) are presented stressing on the unifying structures underlying such diverse models. Variety of ultralocal and nonultralocal models is shown to be described by a few basic relations defining novel algebraic entries. Such properties can generate and classify integrable models systematically and also help to solve exactly their eigenvalue problem in an almost model-independent way. The unifying thread stretches also beyond the QIS to establish its deep connections with statistical models, conformal field theory etc. as well as with abstract mathematical objects like quantum group, braided or quadratic algebra

BRAID STATISTICS IN LOCAL QUANTUM THEORY

Jürg Martin Fröhlich, Fabrizio Gabbiani

We present details of a mathematical theory of superselection sectors and their statistics in local quantum theory over (two- and) three-dimensional space-time. The framework for our analysis is algebraic quantum field theory. Statistics of superselection sectors in three-dimensional local quantum theory with charges not localizable in bounded space-time regions and in two-dimensional chiral theories is described in terms of unitary representations of the braid groups generated by certain Yang-Baxter matrices. We describe the beginnings of a systematic classification of those representations. Our analysis makes contact with the classification theory of subfactors initiated by Jones. We prove a general theorem on the connection between spin and statistics in theories with braid statistics. We also show that every theory with braid statistics gives rise to a “Verlinde algebra”. It determines a projective representation of SL(2, ℤ) and, presumably, of the mapping class group of any Riemann surface, even if the theory does not display conformal symmetry.
