The Relativistic Time-Dependent Aharonov-Bohm Effect

A. Petridis, Zachary Kertzman, Khinlay Win

The relativistic Aharonov-Bohm (AB) effect is studied using the time-dependent Dirac equation. It is shown that if the initial electron distribution is a pulse it is possible to define time-dependent signals that distinguish the AB effect from dipole and induced Coulomb interactions.

Aharonov–Bohm phase shifts induced by laser pulses

Brett Barwick, Herman Batelaan

An experimentally accessible scalar Aharonov–Bohm (AB)-effect is proposed using a ponderomotive potential induced by a pulsed laser. This ponderomotive AB (PAB)-effect is unique in that the time-averaged description is classified as type-I, whereas the underlying time-dependent theory is classified as type-II. Not only is the PAB-effect of fundamental interest, it may also be used to characterize ultrashort electron pulses (<100 fs), using low power femtosecond lasers, which is important for ultrafast electron diffraction and microscopy.

An Experiment to Test the Gravitational Aharonov-Bohm Effect

Vu B Ho, Michael J Morgan

The gravitational Aharonov-Bohm (AB) effect is examined in the weak-field approximation to general relativity. In analogy with the electromagnetic AB effect, we find that a gravitoelectromagnetic 4-vector potential gives rise to interference effects. A matter wave interferometry experiment, based on a modification of the gravity-induced quantum interference experiment of Colella, Overhauser and Werner (COW), is proposed to explicitly test the gravitoelectric version of the AB effect in a uniform gravitational field.
