The geometric phase in a multi-level superconducting artificial atom

Mahmoud Abdel‐Aty

We investigate a scheme for an environment-induced geometric phase based on a multi-level artificial atom, initially prepared in a mixed state, that is sent through a superconducting cavity. It is shown that the environment provides a mechanism for the generation of a long-lived geometric phase. Owing to the effect of the decoherence, the solution of the master equation allows one to calculate the W-function for the multi-level system. In this regime the negativity disappears due to a stronger decoherence.

Geometric phase in open two-level system

Zhisong Wang, L. C. Kwek, C. H Lai +1 more

A mapping is established in connecting density matrices, associated with an evolution of a quantum open system, with vector ray in a complex projective Hilbert space. By using the corresponding vector ray to represent the open two-level system, we may observe the geometric phase for the open two-level system. The geometric phase of the open two-level system depends only on the smooth (open or closed) curve in the complex projective Hilbert space of ray, which is formulated entirely in terms of geometric structures on this space.

Geometric phase of mixed states for three-level open systems

Yanyan Jiang, Y. H. Ji, Hualan Xu +4 more

Geometric phase of mixed state for three-level open system is defined by establishing in connecting density matrix with nonunit vector ray in a three-dimensional complex Hilbert space. Because the geometric phase depends only on the smooth curve on this space, it is formulated entirely in terms of geometric structures. Under the limiting of pure state, our approach is in agreement with the Berry phase, Pantcharatnam phase, and Aharonov and Anandan phase. We find that, furthermore, the Berry phase of mixed state correlated to population inversions of three-level open system.
