Abstract

This article presents functional integral representations for the heat semigroups with the infinitesimal generators given by self-adjoint Hamiltonians describing an interaction of a. non-relativistic charged particle and a quantized radiation field in the Coulomb gauge without the dipole approximation. Special attention is paid to definition of the "time-ordered Hilbert space-valued stochastic integrals associated with a family of isometries from a Hilbert space to another one" and semigroup techniques. Some inequalities are derived, which are infinite degree versions of those known for finite dimensional Schrodinger operators with classical vector potentials.

Functional Integral Representation of the Pauli-Fierz Model with Spin 1/2

Fumio Hiroshima, József Lőrinczi

A Feynman-Kac-type formula for a Lévy and an infinite dimensional Gaussian random process associated with a quantized radiation field is derived. In particular, a functional integral representation of $e^{-t\PF}$ generated by the Pauli-Fierz Hamiltonian with spin $\han$ in non-relativistic quantum electrodynamics is constructed. When no external potential is applied $\PF$ turns translation invariant and it is decomposed as a direct integral $\PF = \int_\BR^\oplus \PF(P) dP$. The functional integral representation of $e^{-t\PF(P)}$ is also given. Although all these Hamiltonians include spin, nevertheless the kernels obtained for the path measures are scalar rather than matrix expressions. As an application of the functional integral representations energy comparison inequalities are derived.

Path integrals in relativistic quantum mechanics

Gian Fabrizio De Angelis, Maurizio Serva

This paper is a review of path integral representations for semigroups {exp(-t H_r/ħ)}{t≥0} where H_r's are relativistic quantum Hamiltonians. We consider three different cases: in the first one Hr is a relativistic Schrödinger operator, in the second is the Hamiltonian associated to Klein-Gordon equation and in the third is that coming from the Dirac one. The paths are trajectories of diffusion processes and, for the Dirac case, they differ from previous constructions based on jump Markov processes. All formulas describe one relativistic particle in an external static electromagnetic field therefore they are relativistic versions of the Feymann-Kac representation for Schrödinger semigroups.

Diffusion of quantum states generated by a classical random walk

Yu. N. Orlov, Vsevolod Zhanovich Sakbaev

We investigate a model that associates random walks in a finite-dimensional Euclidean coordinate space of a classical system with random quantum walks, i.e. random transformations of the set of states of a quantum system arising from quantization of a classical system. As is known, the convolution semigroup of Gaussian measures on a coordinate space admits a representation by a semigroup of self-adjoint contractions in the space of square-integrable functions described by the heat equation. We obtain a representation of the convolution semigroup of Gaussian measures on a coordinate space by a quantum dynamic semigroup in the space of nuclear operators. We give a description of the quantum dynamic semigroup by solutions of the Cauchy problem for a degenerate diffusion equation. We establish the generalized convergence in distribution of a sequence of quantum random walks to an operator-valued random process with values in the Abelian algebra of shift operators by a vector with a normal distribution.

Hilbert space path integral representation for the reduced dynamics of matter in thermal radiation fields

Heinz‐Peter Breuer, Francesco Petruccione

A Hilbert space path integral for the dissipative dynamics of matter in thermal radiation fields is derived from the Hamiltonian of quantum electrodynamics. This path integral represents the conditional transition probability of a stochastic Markov process as a sum over sample trajectories in Hilbert space. The realizations of the process are piecewise deterministic paths broken by instantaneous quantum jumps. It is shown that the operators which define the possible quantum jumps form a continuous family parametrized by the polarization vector of the emitted or absorbed photons. The stochastic process is shown to be representation-independent and to be invariant with respect to space rotations. The precise physical interpretation of the stochastic process is given. In particular, the expansion of the density matrix in terms of quantum jumps is derived for finite temperatures from the Hilbert space path integral.
