A Note on Fundamental Limit of Quantum Dynamics Rate

Shuangshuang Fu, Nan Li, Luo Shun-Long

The unified bound on the fundamental limit of quantum dynamics rate, as quietly recently obtained by Levitin and Toffoli [ Phys. Rev. Lett. 103 (2009) 160502 ], is improved and refined. The improvement may be arbitrarily large in certain cases. In particular, this puts a limit on the operation rate of quantum gates allowed by quantum mechanics.

Entropy Production as a Fundamental Constraint on Quantum Speed Limits via

Humberto Arrabal

We establish a direct connection between entropy production induced by quantum coherencedecay and fundamental limits on quantum computation rates. For a qubit undergoing Markovianpure dephasing, we derive an exact nonlinear relation between coherence decay and von Neumannentropy production, expressed in closed form through the Bloch radius. Combining this result withcoherence-constrained quantum speed limits, we show that entropy generation governs the effectivecoherence time and thereby constrains the maximum computational rate. Our results provide aunified thermodynamic and dynamical framework linking decoherence, irreversibility, and quantumspeed limits.
