Abstract

In Physical Layer Network Coding (PLNC), the two information sources access to the relay station, simultaneously and thus the transmitted signals are combined, together. Since the relay station hardly decodes each information single, the security for avoiding the information leak to the relay station is maintained. Therefore, the PLNC is attracting much attention in terms of physical layer security (PLS). However, the information source needs the transmit power control based on the channel state information (CSI). If the relay station is untrusted, it camouflages the real CSI for stealing the information. This paper considers the camouflaging of CSI is modeled as the liner programming problem in the subject to the statistic of CSI following the model of propagation. We clarify the maximal capacity of tapping by the relay station.

Optimal impersonation of CSI for maximizing leaked information to untrusted relay in PLNC

Osamu Takyu, Kengo Matsumoto, Tomoaki Otsuki Ohtsuki +3 more

In Physical Layer Network Coding (PLNC), since the two sources access the relay station at a time, the relay station can hardly demodulate each information owing to the mutual interference between two transmitted signals. The PLNC achieves the high secure relay communication based on physical layer security (PLS). The source needs the transmit power control based on the channel state information (CSI) for maintaining the secure mutual interference. The untrusted relay, however, may impersonate the CSI for breaking it. So far, the authors have evaluated the amount of the leaked information to the untrusted relay by the impersonation of CSI but the leaked information is not maximal. For the countermeasure to the impersonation of CSI, the most powerful model of the untrusted relay to maximizing the leaked information is necessary. This paper constructs the optimal impersonation of CSI by a linear programing problem.

Physical layer network coding with multiple untrusted relays for physical layer security

Yamaguchi Kazuma, Osamu Takyu, Tomoaki Otsuki Ohtsuki +2 more

We proposed the physical layer security (PLS) under the untrusted relay in the wireless communication with the physical layer network coding (PLNC). In PLNC, the two information source accesses the relay station, simultaneously and thus it is difficult for the relay station to demodulate each signal due to the masking-effect from the other signal. As a result, the leakage of information to the untrusted relay is avoidable. The transmit power control (TPC) for the balancing between the two received signal powers is powerful. The secure capacity is enlarged but has not been optimized for maximizing the secure capacity. In this paper, the quasi-optimization of TPC for enlarging secure capacity is derived in the wireless communication with the untrusted relay and PLNC.

Performance evaluation of the physical layer security using artificial noise and relay station

Kabeya Junichi, Osamu Takyu, Tomoaki Otsuki Ohtsuki +2 more

In the physical layer security (PLS), the beam forming with multiple antennas enhances the received signal power at the legitimate user but suppresses it at the other users. The other users hardly demodulate the information without the bit error. However, if the channel state between the legitimate user and the other one is highly correlated, it is possible for the other users to demodulate the information signal. This paper proposes the novel secure communication system with utilizing the artificial noise and the relay station. When the legitimate user emits the artificial noise, the relay station receives the information bearing signal and the artificial noise. The other users cannot demodulate the information due to the interference of artificial noise. After the relay forwards the combined signal between the information bearing signal and the artificial noise to the legitimate user, the artificial noise is removed from the forwarded signal by the legitimate user. As a result, the legitimate user can demodulate the information. Therefore, the secure wireless communication can be constructed. This paper evaluates the secure capacity for the various location of eavesdropper and clarifies the validity of proposed system.

Secure Beamforming Design for Physical Layer Network Coding Based MIMO Two-Way Relaying

Keeth Jayasinghe, Praneeth Jayasinghe, Nandana Rajatheva +1 more

In this letter, we propose a secure beamforming scheme for physical layer network coding (PNC)-based multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) two-way relaying system. The relay node performs PNC mapping. An eavesdropper is attempting to intercept the user information. The channel state information (CSI) of the user-to-eavesdropper channel is imperfect at the user nodes. A robust optimization problem is formulated to design beamforming vectors at the user nodes and relay. The problem is non-convex, and an algorithm is proposed to solve that. In the numerical analysis, we discuss the convergence of the proposed algorithm and the impact of the CSI error on the performance.

Robust transmit design for secure AF relay networks with imperfect CSI

Lingxiang Li, Yu Xu, Zhi Chen +1 more

This paper studies robust transmit design for secure AF relay networks with imperfect channel state information (CSI). Two CSI error models, deterministically bounded error model and stochastic error model, are considered. In order to use the power at relays more efficiently, a joint cooperative relaying and jamming scheme is considered, where relays cooperate to forward the source signal and simultaneously they cooperate to send jamming signals to confuse the eavesdroppers. In this joint cooperative relaying and jamming framework, we address the robust joint optimization of the relay weights and the input covariance matrix of jamming signals for secrecy rate maximization (SRM), under both total and individual relay power constraints. Specifically, for the case of deterministically bounded error model, where the CSI error can be specified by an uncertainty set, we maximize the worst-case secrecy rate. While for the case of stochastic error model, where the probability distribution of the CSI error is Gaussian, we maximize the outage constrained secrecy rate. The challenge of these considered SRM-based optimizations lies in their non-convexity. This paper shows that such SRM-based optimization can be solved in a convex fashion and via solving a sequence of semidefinite programs (SDPs). Numerical results are presented to show the efficacy of the proposed scheme.

Joint Physical Network Coding and Destination Aided Cooperative Jamming for Secure Wireless Sensor Networks

Dehuai Li, Xiguang Zhang, Yong Shang

In this paper, we investigate physical layer network coding (PNC) and destination assisted cooperative jamming (DACJ) for physical layer security in wireless sensor networks, in which there is one source, one destination, a cluster of intermediate nodes, and multiple eavesdroppers. Under the PNC protocol, the considered two-hop wireless sensor network implements a complete transmission process in two phases. In the first phase, through sending a jamming signal from the destination and exploiting the PNC at the relay, the relay decodes the exclusive-OR (XOR) performed form of the source and the jamming message. Therefore, the jamming signal can degrade the wire-tap channels without hampering the legitimate channel. In the second phase, the relay transmits the re-encoded message to the destination while eavesdroppers are out of work as they cannot extract information from the signal. Thus, the proposed design can significantly improve the performance of secure wireless communications. Meanwhile, the proposed schemes select one optimal node from the intermediate nodes and give an optimal solution of power allocation to maximize secrecy capacity. Numerical simulation results show that the proposed schemes have a better and more stable secrecy performance than the conventional schemes at the same power consumption.
