Chaos and quantum Fisher information in the quantum kicked top

Abstract

Quantum Fisher information is related to the problem of parameter estimation. Recently, a criterion has been proposed for entanglement in multipartite systems based on quantum Fisher information. This paper studies the behaviours of quantum Fisher information in the quantum kicked top model, whose classical correspondence can be chaotic. It finds that, first, detected by quantum Fisher information, the quantum kicked top is entangled whether the system is in chaotic or in regular case. Secondly, the quantum Fisher information is larger in chaotic case than that in regular case, which means, the system is more sensitive in the chaotic case.

Chaos, entanglement, and decoherence in the quantum kicked top

Shohini Ghose, R. Stock, Poul Jessen +2 more

We analyze the interplay of chaos, entanglement, and decoherence in a system of qubits whose collective behavior is that of a quantum kicked top. The dynamical entanglement between a single qubit and the rest can be calculated from the mean of the collective spin operators. This allows the possibility of efficiently measuring entanglement dynamics in an experimental setting. We consider a deeply quantum regime and show that signatures of chaos are present in the dynamical entanglement for parameters accessible in an experiment that we propose using cold atoms. The evolution of the entanglement depends on the support of the initial state on regular versus chaotic Floquet eigenstates, whose phase-space distributions are concentrated on the corresponding regular or chaotic eigenstructures. We include the effect of decoherence via a realistic model and show that the signatures of chaos in the entanglement dynamics persist in the presence of decoherence. In addition, the classical chaos affects the decoherence rate itself.

Quantum Fisher information and spin squeezing in the interaction system of light and matter

Chang Qing Feng, Xiaoqian Wang, Gai Yong-Jie +2 more

Fisher information is an important concept in estimation theory, which has recently been found closely related with the criteria of the entanglement in quantum information. Under the condition of non-rotating wave approximation, the classical phase space of the Dicke model displays chaotic dynamic properties. This paper studies the quantum Fisher information and the dynamic properties of spin squeezing in the interaction system of light and matter described in the Dicke model. Results reveal that, in the short-time instant state, wherever the initial state is, in a regular region or a chaotic region, the system displays entanglement; but in the long-time stable state, when the initial state is in the regular region, the system entanglement disappears, however, when the initial state is in the chaotic region, the system is always entangled. Compared with the spin-squeezing dynamic properties of the system, Fisher information is found to be able to effectively characterize quantum chaos. On further examination on the dynamic evolvement properties of the density matrix and purity of the system when in the regular and chaotic regions, we find that chaos gives rise to decoherence of the system, showing that quantum information become more sensitive to chaos.

Entanglement as a signature of quantum chaos

Xiaoguang Wang, Shohini Ghose, Barry C. Sanders +1 more

We explore the dynamics of entanglement in classically chaotic systems by considering a multiqubit system that behaves collectively as a spin system obeying the dynamics of the quantum kicked top. In the classical limit, the kicked top exhibits both regular and chaotic dynamics depending on the strength of the chaoticity parameter kappa in the Hamiltonian. We show that the entanglement of the multiqubit system, considered for both the bipartite and the pairwise entanglement, yields a signature of quantum chaos. Whereas bipartite entanglement is enhanced in the chaotic region, pairwise entanglement is suppressed. Furthermore, we define a time-averaged entangling power and show that this entangling power changes markedly as kappa moves the system from being predominantly regular to being predominantly chaotic, thus sharply identifying the edge of chaos. When this entangling power is averaged over all states, it yields a signature of global chaos. The qualitative behavior of this global entangling power is similar to that of the classical Lyapunov exponent.

Entanglement and chaos in the kicked top

M. Lombardi, A. Matzkin

The standard kicked top involves a periodically kicked angular momentum. By considering this angular momentum as a collection of entangled spins, we compute the bipartite entanglement dynamics as a function of the dynamics of the classical counterpart. Our numerical results indicate that the entanglement of the quantum top depends on the specific details of the dynamics of the classical top rather than depending universally on the global properties of the classical regime. These results are grounded on linking the entanglement rate to averages involving the classical angular momentum, thereby explaining why regular dynamics can entangle as efficiently as the classically chaotic regime. The findings are in line with previous results obtained with a two-particle top model, and we show here that the standard kicked top can be obtained as a limiting case of the two-particle top.

Bridging entanglement dynamics and chaos in semiclassical systems

Alessio Lerose, Silvia Pappalardi

It is widely recognized that entanglement generation and dynamical chaos are intimately related in semiclassical models via the process of decoherence. In this paper, we propose a unifying framework which directly connects the bipartite and multipartite entanglement growth to the quantifiers of classical and quantum chaos. In the semiclassical regime, the dynamics of the von Neumann entanglement entropy, the spin squeezing, the quantum Fisher information, and the out-of-time-order square commutator are governed by the divergence of nearby phase-space trajectories via the local Lyapunov spectrum, as suggested by previous conjectures in the literature. General analytical predictions are confirmed by detailed numerical calculations for two paradigmatic models, relevant in atomic and optical experiments, which exhibit a regular-to-chaotic transition: the quantum kicked top and the Dicke model.

Diagnosing quantum chaos with out-of-time-ordered-correlator quasiprobability in the kicked-top model

José Raúl González Alonso, Nathan Shammah, Shahnawaz Ahmed +2 more

While classical chaos has been successfully characterized with consistent theories and intuitive techniques, such as with the use of Lyapunov exponents, quantum chaos is still poorly understood, as well as its relation with multi-partite entanglement and information scrambling. We consider a benchmark system, the kicked top model, which displays chaotic behaviour in the classical version, and proceed to characterize the quantum case with a thorough diagnosis of the growth of chaos and entanglement in time. As a novel tool for the characterization of quantum chaos, we introduce for this scope the quasi-probability distribution behind the out-of-time-ordered correlator (OTOC). We calculate the cumulative nonclassicality of this distribution, which has already been shown to outperform the simple use of OTOC as a probe to distinguish between integrable and nonintegrable Hamiltonians. To provide a thorough comparative analysis, we contrast the behavior of the nonclassicality with entanglement measures, such as the tripartite mutual information of the Hamiltonian as well as the entanglement entropy. We find that systems whose initial states would lie in the "sea of chaos" in the classical kicked-top model, exhibit, as they evolve in time, characteristics associated with chaotic behavior and entanglement production in closed quantum systems. We corroborate this indication by capturing it with this novel OTOC-based measure.
