Physical Interpretation of Supercoherent States and their Associated Grassmann Numbers

Abstract

A physical interpretation of supercoherent states is suggested. It is based upon the observation that an ordinary coherent state is an eigenstate of a specific mode of the radiation field. A supercoherent state is viewed as a photino coherently combined with photons of the same mode. An interpretation of the associated Grassmann-valued numbers of the state is also discussed. 13 refs.

Supercoherent states

A general approach is presented for constructing coherent states for supersymmetric systems. It uses Rogers's supermanifold formulation of supergroups to extend the group-theoretic method. Supercoherent states are explicitly obtained for the supersymmetric harmonic oscillator. They are shown to be eigenstates of the supersymmetric annihilation operator and to be minimum-uncertainty states. Two more-complex situations with extended physical supersymmetries are also considered: an electron moving in a constant magnetic field, and the electron-monopole system. The supercoherent states for these systems are found using super Baker-Campbell-Hausdorff relations and their interpretation is elucidated.

Supercoherent states and physical systems

V. Alan Kostelecký, Michael Martin Nieto, B. W. Fatyga +1 more

A method is developed for obtaining coherent states of a system admitting a supersymmetry. These states are called supercoherent states. The presented approach is based on an extension to supergroups of the usual group-theoretic approach. The example of the supersymmetric harmonic oscillator is discussed, thereby illustrating some of the attractive features of the method. Supercoherent states of an electron moving in a constant magnetic field are also described.

Supercoherent states

Carlos Aragone, Fredy R. Zypman

The authors present the supercoherent states. They are introduced as the eigenstates of the supersymmetric annihilation operator of the quantum mechanical supersymmetric harmonic oscillator. They have a compact expression in terms of the standard (bosonic) coherent states. For each value of the complex parameter z there are two linearly independent orthogonal supercoherent states. One of them has pure fermionic character and is the more classical, while the other is fully supersymmetric (i.e. the mean value of the Klein operator when the system is set in this state vanishes). There are no purely bosonic supercoherent states. The supercoherent fermionic states saturate both the Heisenberg uncertainty relation and the new entropic uncertainty recently introduced by Deutsch (1983), while the supersymmetric ones almost (but not exactly) make it. They give a classical (or almost classical) mean value for the energy of the system and do not spread along their time evolution.

Coherent States

Bryan J. Dalton, John Jeffers, Stephen Mark Barnett

Abstract This chapter defines and determines the properties of the important (though non-physical) boson and fermion coherent states, which are specified in terms of c-number (bosons) or Grassmann (fermions) variables and their complex conjugates, and defined via unitary displacement operators acting on the vacuum state. Important non-orthogonality, overcompleteness and coherence properties of coherent states are obtained. Coherent states are shown to be eigenstates of mode annihilation operators, with eigenvalues given by the c-number or Grassmann variable specifying the state. Related (unnormalised) Bargmann states are defined, depending only on the variable and not its complex conjugate, and are used to obtain useful representations of physical states and canonical forms for operators in terms of Bargmann state projectors, as well as obtaining important results such as for traces of operator products in terms of phase space integrals. Mode creation operators acting on Bargmann states are shown as equivalent to differentiation.

Boson-fermion mappings for odd systems from supercoherent states

J. Dobaczewski, Frederik G. Scholtz, H. B. Geyer

We extend the formalism whereby boson mappings can be derived from generalized coherent states to boson-fermion mappings for systems with an odd number of fermions. This is accomplished by constructing supercoherent states in terms of both complex and Grassmann variables. In addition to a known mapping for the full so(2N+1) algebra, we also uncover some other formal mappings, together with mappings relevant to collective subspaces.
