Abstract

This paper proposes a scheme to generate, in an ion-trap, a type of multipartite maximally entangled state which was first introduced by Chen et al . [Chen P X, Zhu S Y and Guo G C 2006 Phys. Rev . A 74 032324 ]. The maximum entanglement property of these states is examined. It also demonstrates how to discriminate among these states in the ion-trap.

Generation and discrimination of a type of four-partite entangled state

Xin-Wen Wang, Guojian Yang

Recently, a genuine four-qubit entangled state ${\ensuremath{\mid}{\ensuremath{\chi}}^{00}⟩}_{3214}$ has been proposed [Y. Yeo and W. K. Chua, Phys. Rev. Lett. 96, 060502 (2006)]. This state has many interesting entanglement properties and possible applications in quantum information processing and fundamental tests of quantum physics. Here we present a simple scheme for generating such a state in an ion-trap system. We also demonstrate how to discriminate between the 16 basis states ${{\ensuremath{\mid}{\ensuremath{\chi}}^{ij}⟩}_{3214}={\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{3}^{i}{\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{1}^{j}{\ensuremath{\mid}{\ensuremath{\chi}}^{00}⟩}_{3214},i,j=0,1,2,3}$.

Entanglement swapping via quantum state discrimination

A. Delgado, Luis Roa, J. C. Retamal +1 more

We study entanglement swapping through nonmaximally entangled states. The combination of the standard protocol with an optimal scheme for quantum state discrimination leads to a reliable protocol for the conclusive probabilistic generation of maximally entangled states. A possible setup based on cold trapped ions is proposed.

Efficient Scheme for the Deterministic Maximal Entanglement of N Trapped Ions

Jörg Steinbach, Christopher C. Gerry

We propose a method for generating maximally entangled states of $N$ two-level trapped ions. The method is deterministic and independent of the number of ions in the trap. It involves a controlled NOT acting simultaneously on all the ions through a dispersive interaction. We explore the potential application of our scheme for high precision frequency standards.

Two Schemes for Generation of Entanglement for Vibronic Collective States of Multiple Trapped Ions

Wen‐Xing Yang, Jiahua Li, Anshou Zheng

We propose two schemes to prepare entanglement for the vibronic collective states of multiple trapped ions. The first scheme aims to generating multipartite entanglement for vibrational modes of trapped ions, which only requires a single laser beam tuned to the ionic carrier frequency. Our scheme works in the mediated excitation regime, in which the corresponding Rabi frequency is equal to the trap frequency. Beyond their fundamental importance, these states may be of interest for experimental studies on decoherence since the present scheme operates in a fast way. The second scheme aims to preparing the continuous variable multimode maximally Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger state. The distinct advantage is that the operation time is only limited by the available laser intensity, not by the inherent mechanisms such as off-resonant excitations. This makes it promising to obtain entanglement of multiple coherent and squeezing states with desired amplitudes in a reasonable time.

Entanglement concentration and teleportation of multipartite entangled states in an ion trap

Chang-Ning Pan, Mao-Fa Fang

We propose an effective scheme for the entanglement concentration of a four-particle state via entanglement swapping in an ion trap. Taking the maximally entangled state after concentration as a quantum channel, we can faithfully and determinatively teleport quantum entangled states from Alice to Bob without the joint Bell-state measurement. In the process of constructing the quantum channel, we adopt entanglement swapping to avoid the decrease of entanglement during the distribution of particles. Thus our scheme provides a new prospect for quantum teleportation over a longer distance. Furthermore, the success probability of our scheme is 1.0.

Two Simple Schemes for Preparing Multipartite Entangled States of Cold Trapped Ions

Li Zhi Yu

Two experimentally feasible schemes are proposed for generating multipartite entangled states of cold trapped ions. In the first scheme, a Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger state can be simply synthesized in a single step, in view of decoherence mechanism, a reduction of the number of operations for the state preparation is crucial. What’s more, only one laser beam is required in our scheme. The second scheme is to prepare canonical (fully symmetric) W states by two steps. However, in the paper [HÄaner H, HÄansel W, Roos C F, et al. Nature, 2005, 438:643-646.] M steps were required for generating the same W states.
