Abstract

The finite-size scaling relation for the order-parameter probability distribution of the four-dimensional Ising model is obtained. It is tested and verified numerically by Monte Carlo simulations. The constants of the critical finite-size scaling function in the analytical form are determined by fitting it to the finite-size scaling function obtained numerically.

Are critical finite-size scaling functions calculable from knowledge of an appropriate critical exponent?

Rudolf Hilfer A, Nigel B. Wilding

Critical finite-size scaling functions for the order-parameter distribution of the two- and three-dimensional Ising model are investigated. Within a recently introduced classification theory of phase transitions the universal part of critical finite-size scaling functions has been derived by employing a scaling limit which differs from the traditional finite-size scaling limit. In this paper the analytical predictions are compared with Monte Carlo simulation results. We find good agreement between the analytical expression and the simulation results. The agreement is consistent with the possibility that the functional form of the critical finite-size scaling function for the order-parameter distribution is determined uniquely by only a few universal parameters, most notably the equation of state exponent.

UNIVERSAL FINITE-SIZE-SCALING FUNCTIONS

Yutaka Okabe, Macoto Kikuchi

The idea of universal finite-size-scaling functions of the Ising model is tested by Monte Carlo simulations for various lattices. Not only regular lattices such as the square lattice but quasiperiodic lattices such as the Penrose lattice are treated. We show that the finite-size-scaling functions of the order parameter for various lattices are collapsed on a single curve by choosing two nonuniversal scaling metric factors. We extend the idea of the universal finite-size-scaling functions to the order-parameter distribution function. We pay attention to the effects of boundary conditions.

Finite-size scaling of the magnetization probability density for the critical Ising model in slab geometry

David Lopes Cardozo, P. C. W. Holdsworth

The magnetization probability density in d = 2 and 3 dimensional Ising models in slab geometry of volume [Formula: see text] is computed through Monte-Carlo simulation at the critical temperature and zero magnetic field. The finite-size scaling of this distribution and its dependence on the system aspect-ratio [Formula: see text]and boundary conditions are discussed. In the limiting case [Formula: see text] of a macroscopically large slab ([Formula: see text]) the distribution is found to scale as a Gaussian function for all tested system sizes and boundary conditions.

The four dimensional site-diluted Ising model: a finite-size scaling study

H.G. Ballesteros, L. A. Fernández, Víctor Martín-Mayor +4 more

Using finite-size scaling techniques, we study the critical properties of the site-diluted Ising model in four dimensions. We carry out a high-statistics Monte Carlo simulation for several values of the dilution. The results support the perturbative scenario: there is only the Ising fixed point with large logarithmic scaling corrections. We obtain, using the Perturbative Renormalization Group, functional forms for the scaling of several observables that are in agreement with the numerical data.

THE TEST OF THE FINITE-SIZE SCALING RELATIONS FOR THE FIVE-DIMENSIONAL ISING MODEL ON THE CREUTZ CELLULAR AUTOMATON

Nevzat AKTEKİN, Şaki̇r Erkoç, M. KALAY

The five-dimensional Ising model is simulated on the Creutz cellular automaton using the finite-size lattices with the linear dimension 4≤L≤16. The exponents in the finite-size scaling relations for the magnetic susceptibility and the order parameter at the infinite-lattice critical temperature are computed to be 2.52(7) and 1.25(11) using 6≤L≤12, respectively, which are in very good agreement with the Monte Carlo results and with the theoretical predictions of 5/2 and 5/4. The critical temperature for the infinite lattice is found to be 8.779(8) using 8≤L≤16 which is also in very good agreement with the recent precise results.
