Abstract

Similar to most of the other alkaline earth elements, barium atoms can be candidates for optical clocks, thus the magic wavelength for an optical lattice is important for the clock transition. We calculate the magic wavelength of a possible clock transition between 6s 2 1 S 0 and 6s5d 3 D 2 states of barium atoms. Our theoretical result shows that there are three magic wavelengths 615.9nm, 641.2nm and 678.8nm for a linearly polarized optical lattice laser for barium.

Magic Wavelengths of the Optical Clock Transition at 1107 nm of Barium

Geng-Hua Yu, Qi‐Ming Xu, Chao Zhou +3 more

Magic wavelengths for laser trapping of barium atoms in the optical lattices are calculated with considering the optical clock transition at 1107 nm between the 6s 2 1 S 0 state and 6s5d 3 D 1 state. Theoretical calculation shows that there are several magic wavelengths with the linearly polarized trapping laser. The trap depths of the optical lattice and the slope of light shift difference with different magic wavelengths are also calculated. Some of these magic wavelengths are selected and recommended as potentially suitable magic wavelengths for the optical lattice trapping laser.

The ac Stark shifts of the terahertz clock transitions of barium

Geng-Hua Yu, Ying-Ge Geng, Long Li +4 more

Wavelength-dependent AC Stark shifts and magic wavelengths of the terahertz clock transitions between the metastable triplet states 6s5d 3 D 1 and 6s5d 3 D 2 are investigated with considering the optical lattice trapping of barium atoms with the linearly polarized laser. The trap depths and the slopes of light shift difference with distinct magic wavelengths of the optical lattices are also discussed in detail. Several potentially suitable working points for the optical lattice trapping laser are recommended and selected from these magic wavelengths.

Light shifts and magic wavelengths for heavy alkaline earth elements: Ba and Ra

Umakanth Dammalapati, Bodhaditya Santra, Lorenz Willmann

In this paper, we investigate light shifts of heavy alkaline earth elements barium (Ba) and radium (Ra), which are interesting for optical lattice clocks and for permanent electric dipole moment searches. Detailed knowledge is required in the design of efficient loading of atoms from a magneto-optical trap into an optical dipole trap, to facilitate Doppler cooling while trapping and to achieve longer lifetimes of the trapped atoms with reduced heating rates. The wavelength dependence of light shifts of the n s 2 1 S 0 ground state, the n s n p 3 P 1 and n s( n − 1)d 1 D 2 excited states in barium ( n = 6) and the n s 2 1 S 0 ground state, the n s n p 3 P 1 and n s( n − 1)d 3 D 2 excited states in radium ( n = 7) are calculated. Several magic wavelengths in the visible and infrared regions accessible with commercial lasers for optical dipole trapping of Ba and Ra are identified.

Magic wavelengths for terahertz clock transitions

Xiaoji Zhou, Xia Xu, Xuzong Chen +1 more

Magic wavelengths for laser trapping of boson isotopes of alkaline-earth metal atoms Sr, Ca, and Mg are investigated while considering terahertz clock transitions between the ${}^{3}{P}_{0}$, ${}^{3}{P}_{1}$, and ${}^{3}{P}_{2}$ metastable triplet states. Our calculation shows that magic wavelengths for laser trapping do exist. This result is important because those metastable states have already been used to make accurate clocks in the terahertz frequency domain. Detailed discussions for magic wavelengths for terahertz clock transitions are given in this article.

Optical lattice-field-induced 1 S 0 - 3 P 0 transitions in even isotopes of alkaline-earth atoms

Vitaly D. Ovsiannikov, Vitaly G. Palchikov, А. В. Тайченачев +1 more

The circular polarized laser beam of the “magic” wavelength used to produce an optical lattice for the time-frequency standard on neutral atoms may mix the 3P 1 state to the long-living metastable state 3P 0 thus providing significant enhancement of the strongly forbidden 1S 0 -3P 0 clock transition in even isotopes of alkaline-earth-like atoms. We present a detailed analysis of various factors influencing resolution and uncertainty for this kind of optical standard, including precise estimations of the “magic” wavelengths, transition matrix elements and field induced second- and fourth-order ac Stark shifts for the ground and metastable alkaline-earth-like atoms.
