Squeezing in the Thermal Jaynes-Cummings Model

Abstract

We have studied the influence of thermal photons on the symmetry between the field and atomic squeezing (SFAS) exposed in the resonant vacuum-field Jaynes-Cummings model with an initially coherent atom. We have shown that when the number of thermal photons ( N av ) is less than 0.01, the SFAS is not sensitive to the presence of thermal photons; when N av ⩾ 0.01, the broken SFAS can be seen; when N av ⩾ 0.1, the squeezed atom cannot radiate a squeezed field any longer. Also, we have discussed the possibility of detection of the boken symmetry in superconducting maser cavity.

Symmetry Breaking in the Jaynes-Cummings Model Without RWA

Xie Ruihua, Gong-ou Xu

The relationship between the field and atomic squeezing has been studied in the Jaynes–Cummings model without the rotating-wave approximation (RWA). For weaker coupling( ), the symmetry between the field and atomic squeezing (SFAS) has been exposed. When the coupling strength is up to the magnitude of order , the SFAS begins to be destroyed. For sufficiently stronger coupling( ), the squeezing disappears almost entirely and the SFAS is destroyed thoroughly.

k-photon Jaynes-Cummings model with coherent atomic preparation: Squeezing and coherence

W. Vogel, D.‐G. Welsch

The k-photon Jaynes-Cummings model is studied with respect to the properties of the radiation mode. In particular, the generation of coherence and squeezing in the one- and two-photon model is examined for the case that the field is initially in the vacuum state and the atom is prepared in a coherent superposition of states. Coherence is found in the one-photon model, and squeezing appears in both the one- and the two-photon model, the maximum noise reduction being 25% and 45%, respectively. In the one-photon model coherent squeezed radiation is generated, whereas the two-photon model yields a squeezed vacuum. For an initial atomic preparation close to the ground state, this squeezed vacuum may be interpreted as the result of two-photon interaction between the quantized cavity field and a classical atomic current.

Squeezing Properties of Jaynes-Cummings Fields in Heat Baths

M.S. Kim, Min Kim, K.S. Lee

It is well-known that the field in the Jaynes-Cummings model shows second-order and fourth-order quadrature squeezing. We study the influence of a heat bath reservoir on the squeezing properties of the Jaynes-Cummings field. The experimental realization of the Jaynes-Cummings model is the one-atom maser. Instead of introducing the cavity loss from the first instance of the atom-field interaction we consider the cavity loss only after the atom leaves the cavity under the assumption of strong coupling of the atom with the cavity field as in micromaser theory. In this way we can suggest an optimum span of time to preserve the squeezing properties of the Jaynes-Cummings field. We first investigate the thermal decay of the Fock state and with use of this analytical result we study the evolution of squeezing properties of the cavity field surrounded by the heat bath. Unlike the monotonic decay of second-order squeezing, we find an interesting result of enhancement of fourth-order squeezing during the dissipation process. We extensively analyse the enhancement of fourth-order squeezing through the dissipation process so as to apply the analysis to the case of decay of an arbitrary field state into the vacuum.

On the Symmetric Structure of the Field and Atomic Squeezing in the Jaynes-Cummings Model

Rui-hua Xie, Gong-ou Xu, Dun-huan Liu

A symmetric structure of the field and atomic squeezing (SSFAS) have been exposed in the resonant Jaynes-Cummings model when it is restricted to the following initial condition: the atom in its ground state and the field in the superposition of zero and one-photon number states. The SSFAS is destroyed due to the non-resonant interaction or the interference between the real-photon processes and virtual-photon processes.

Thermal and squeezed vacuum Jaynes-Cummings models with a Kerr medium

M. Kozierowski

The dynamics of the Jaynes–Cummings (JCM) model with a nonlinear Kerr medium at initially thermal and squeezed vacuum fields is discussed. At a special choice of the detuning the Rabi frequency can have a minimum at the initial mean photon number [nbar]. Then the situation becomes especially interesting and instead of the first-order ‘usual’ revivals resembling those manifested by the standard coherent JCM, the nonlinear JCM exhibits second-order revivals, also for initially thermal and squeezed vacuum fields, at least for not too large [nbar]. The revival times are highly sensitive to the nature of [nbar]. In the first case the revival period of the oscillations is dependent on whether [nbar] is integer or non-integer (situation similar to an initially coherent field) while in the latter case it depends additionally on the parity of the integer [nbar]. Moreover, for the squeezed vacuum model appearance of the revivals at an integer [nbar] is accelerated when compared to coherent and thermal models.
