Bright and dark soliton solutions in growing Bose–Einstein condensates

Abstract

This paper develops the Hirota method carefully for applying into the growing model of quasi-one-dimensional Bose–Einstein condensations with attractive and repulsive interaction, respectively. After a tedious calculation it obtains the exact bright and dark soliton solutions analytically. It shows that the growing model has the important effect on the soliton amplitude and the time-dependent potential only contributes to the phase and phase velocity. A detailed analysis for the asymptotic behaviour of two-soliton solutions shows that the collision of two soliton is elastic.

Bright and Dark Solitons in a (2+1)-Dimensional Spin-1 Bose-Einstein Condensates

Yan Li, Q Chen, Houria Triki +4 more

The three-coupled Gross-Pitaevskii equation with a harmonic potential in a (2+1)-dimensional spin-1 Bose-Einstein condensate is studied in this paper.Using the Hirota bilinear method, the bright and dark soliton solutions of the system with attractive and repulsive interactions are obtained, and the amplitudes and velocities of those solitons are also given. In addition, we analyze the influence of harmonic potential on the dynamics of solitons and discuss the interaction between solitons through asymptotic analysis. As a result, we find that the amplitude and velocity of solitons are related to the harmonic potential, and the interaction between the two solitons is elastic.

Two-dimensional bright and dark-in-bright dipolar Bose–Einstein condensate solitons on a one-dimensional optical lattice

S K Adhikari

Abstract We study the statics and dynamics of anisotropic, stable, bright and dark-in-bright dipolar quasi-two-dimensional Bose–Einstein condensate (BEC) solitons on a one-dimensional (1D) optical-lattice (OL) potential. These solitons mobile in a plane perpendicular to a 1D OL trap can have both repulsive and attractive contact interactions. Dark-in-bright solitons are the excited states of bright solitons. The solitons, when subjected to a small perturbation, exhibit sustained breathing oscillation. Dark-in-bright solitons can be created by phase imprinting a bright soliton. At medium velocities the collision between two solitons is found to be quasi-elastic. Results are demonstrated by a numerical simulation of the three-dimensional mean-field Gross–Pitaevskii equation in three spatial dimensions employing realistic interaction parameters for a dipolar 164 Dy BEC.

Dark and bright solitons in a quasi-one-dimensional Bose-Einstein condensate

Shun-Jin Wang, Chenglong Jia, Dun Zhao +2 more

The analytical dark and bright soliton solutions of the one-dimensional Gross-Pitaevskii equation with a confining potential are obtained. For the bright soliton, the recent experimental finding is studied, and the particle number of the soliton and the window of the particle numbers for the bright soliton to occur are estimated analytically and in good agreement with the experimental data. The existence of dark soliton for the attractive interaction and bright soliton for the repulsive interaction is predicted under proper conditions.

Superposition solitons in two-component Bose—Einstein condensates

Xiaomin Wang, Qiuyan Li, Zai-Dong Li

We develop the Hirota bilinear method and obtain the exact one and two superposition soliton solutions for two-component Bose—Einstein condensates. The conversion of three kinds of solitons including the superposition solitons, bright-bright solitons, and dark-bright solitons is discussed. With the energy analysis, we find that the superposition soliton state is an excitation state for this system. Moreover, the collision of two superposition solitons is found to be elastic.

Bright solitons in a quasi-one-dimensional reduced model of a dipolar Bose–Einstein condensate with repulsive short-range interactions

Emerson Chiquillo

We study the formation and dynamics of bright solitons in a quasi-one-dimensional reduced mean-field Gross-Pitaevskii equation of a dipolar Bose-Einstein condensate with repulsive short-range interactions. The study is carried out using a variational approximation and a numerical solution. Plots of chemical potential and root mean square (rms) size of solitons are obtained for the quasi-one-dimensional model of three different dipolar condensates of 52Cr, 168Er and 164Dy atoms. The results achieved are in good agreement with those produced by the full three-dimensional mean-field model of the condensate. We also study the dynamics of the collision of a train of two solitons in the quasi-one-dimensional model of every condensate above. At small velocities (zero or close to zero) the dynamics is attractive for a phase difference δ = 0, the solitons coalesce and these oscillate forming a bound soliton molecule. For a phase difference δ = π the effect is repulsive. At large velocities the collision is independent of the initial phase difference δ. This is quasi-elastic and the result is two quasi-solitons.

Nonautonomous dark soliton solutions in two-component Bose-Einstein condensates with a linear time-dependent potential

李秋艳, 王双进, 李再东

We report the analytical nonautonomous soliton solutions(NSSs) for two-component Bose–Einstein condensates with the presence of a time-dependent potential. These solutions show that the time-dependent potential can affect the velocity of NSS. The velocity shows the characteristic of both increasing and oscillation with time. A detailed analysis for the asymptotic behavior of NSSs demonstrates that the collision of two NSSs of each component is elastic.
