Quantum-dot lithium in the strong-interaction regime: Depolarization of electron spins by a magnetic field

S. A. Mikhaǐlov, Nadja A. Savostianova

A magnetic field usually leads to polarization of electron spins. It is shown that in a system of strongly interacting particles applying a magnetic field may lead to the opposite effect: depolarization of electron spins. Results of the work are based on an exact-diagonalization study of quantum-dot lithium---a system of three Coulomb interacting two-dimensional electrons in a parabolic confinement potential.

Electron Interference in a Quantum Ring with a Tunable Magnetic Field Shield

Minky Seo, Hwanchul Jung, Yunhcul Chung

A quantum ring device that can turn on and off the external magnetic field on the ring is developed. The device is to study the effect of the interaction between electrons and external magnetic fields on Aharonov-Bohm interference. The switching is realized by employing a superconducting shield gate and turning on and off the superconductivity on the gate with applied current or magnetic field. The electron interference due to Aharonov-Bohm effect is observed regardless of the presence of the external magnetic field on the electron path of the ring. The result is consistent with the fact that effects of potentials on charged particles exists even in the region where all the field vanish hence no direct interaction between electron and magnetic field is allowed.

Orbital entanglement in an exactly solvable two-electron quantum dot model

Alexei Vladimirovich Chizhov, R. G. Nazmitdinov

We consider an exactly solvable two-dimensional model of a two-electron parabolic quantum dot (QD) under the perpendicular magnetic field. We perform a detailed study of the degree of the orbital entanglement of the ground and first excited singlet state depending on the shape of QD, the strength of the effective interaction and the magnetic field. It was found that a degree of entanglement increases with the growth of interaction between electrons. The magnetic field destroys the entanglement of electrons. However, the entanglement in deformed QDs is more stable to the effect of the magnetic field.
