Nanosecond control and high-density production of spin-polarized hydrogen atoms

Dimitris Sofikitis, L. Rubio Lago, Andrew J. Alexander +1 more

We demonstrate directly the nanosecond-timescale production of spin-polarized hydrogen (SPH) atoms from photodissociation of thermal HBr molecules, and the spin-state and Doppler-resolved detection using polarized fluorescence at 121.6 nm, without requiring hyperfine resolution. These techniques allow a variety of spin-dependent, nanosecond pump-probe experiments with SPH, which were not previously realizable. The potential of surpassing the SPH densities and production rates of current techniques is discussed.

Operator for Optical Polarization

Hari Prakash, Ravi Shankar Singh

For monochromatic light propagating along z -direction, we define a polarization operator which is product of inverse annihilation operator for the x -linearly polarized mode and the annihilation operator for the y -linearly polarized mode. This polarization operator is helpful in testing whether light in a given state is perfectly polarized, and in knowing this perfect polarized state.

Quantum Gates Based on Polarization Transfer NMR Spectroscopy

Ali Güleç, Semīha Bahçelī

We first introduce an alternative way to study the insensitive nuclei enhanced by polarization and distortionless enhancement by polarization transfer NMR experiments with the product operator descriptions for weakly coupled IS (I = 1/2, S = 1/2) spin systems as a quantum controlled not gate and a not gate, respectively. In this framework we apply the density matrix operators obtained from the analytical descriptions of the mentioned pulse sequences by using product operator formalism step by step on the NMR spin product states represented in Dirac's notation.
