Abstract

We investigate the full counting statistics of a one-dimensional multicomponent impenetrable gas released from a bipartite state in the presence of a local defect. Spin--charge separation reduces the multivariate generating function to an exact Fredholm determinant whose kernel is built from time-evolved single-particle orbitals. Expressing these orbitals in terms of scattering data gives access to both transient dynamics and the nonequilibrium steady state. We derive the leading long-time asymptotics and identify persistent oscillations in densities and currents caused by multiple bound states at the junction. We argue that interactions between components lead to a linear low-temperature correction to the current, in contrast to the quadratic correction in the single-component case. At equilibrium, we obtain the M-Wright distribution of spin transfer with $t^{1/4}$ scaling.

Correlation functions of one-dimensional strongly interacting two-component gases

Ovidiu I. Pâţu

We address the problem of calculating the correlation functions of one-dimensional two-component gases with strong repulsive contact interactions. The model considered in this paper describes particles with fractional statistics and in appropriate limits reduces to the Gaudin-Yang model or the spinor Bose gas. In the case of impenetrable particles we derive a Fredholm determinant representation for the temperature-, time-, and space-dependent correlation functions which is very easy to implement numerically and constitutes the starting point for the analytical investigation of the asymptotics. Making use of this determinant representation and the solution of an associated Riemann-Hilbert problem we derive the low-energy asymptotics of the correlators in the spin-incoherent regime characterized by near ground-state charge degrees of freedom but a highly thermally disordered spin sector. The asymptotics present features reminiscent of spin-charge separation with the spin part exponentially decaying in space separation and oscillating with a period proportional to the statistics parameter, while the charge part presents scaling with anomalous exponents which cannot be described by any unitary conformal field theory. The momentum distribution and the Fourier transform of the dynamical Green's function are asymmetrical for arbitrary statistics, a direct consequence of the broken space-reversal symmetry. Due to the exponential decay the momentum distribution $n(k)$ at zero temperature does not present algebraic singularities but the tails obey the universal decay ${lim}_{k\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}\ensuremath{\infty}}n(k)\ensuremath{\sim}C/{k}^{4}$ with the amplitude $C$ given by Tan's contact. As a function of the statistics parameter the contact is a monotonic function reaching its minimum for the fermionic system and the maximum for the bosonic system.

On Landauer–Büttiker formalism from a quantum quench

Oleksandr Gamayun, Yu Zhuravlev, N. Z. Iorgov

Abstract We study transport in the free fermionic one-dimensional systems subjected to arbitrary local potentials. The bias needed for the transport is modeled by the initial highly non-equilibrium distribution where only half of the system is populated. Additionally to that, the local potential is also suddenly changed when the transport starts. For such a quench protocol we compute the full counting statistics (FCS) of the number of particles in the initially empty part. In the thermodynamic limit, the FCS can be expressed via the Fredholm determinant with the kernel depending on the scattering data and Jost solutions of the pre-quench and the post-quench potentials. We discuss the large-time asymptotic behavior of the obtained determinant and observe that if two or more bound states are present in the spectrum of the post-quench potential the information about the initial state manifests itself in the persistent oscillations of the FCS. On the contrary, when there are no bound states the asymptotic behavior of the FCS is determined solely by the scattering data of the post-quench potential, which for the current (the first moment) is given by the Landauer–Büttiker formalism. The information about the initial state can be observed only in the transient dynamics.

Numerical methods and analytic results for one-dimensional strongly interacting spinor gases

Ovidiu I. Pâţu

One of quantum physics' fundamental, but largely unsolved, problems is the computation of the correlation functions in many-body systems. We address this problem in the case of one-dimensional spinor gases with repulsive contact interactions in the presence of a confining potential. We take advantage of the fact that in the strong-coupling limit, the wave function factorizes with the charge degrees of freedom expressed as a Slater determinant of spinless fermions and the spin sector described by a spin chain of Sutherland type with exchange coefficients that depend only on the trapping potential. This factorization is also present in the expressions for the correlation functions. Still, analytical and numerical investigations were hindered by the fact that the local exchange coefficients and the charge component of the correlators are expressed as $N\ensuremath{-}1$ multidimensional integrals, with $N$ the number of particles, which are notoriously hard to compute using conventional methods. We introduce a different approach to calculating these integrals that is extremely simple, scales polynomially with the number of particles, and is several orders of magnitude faster than the previous methods reported in the literature. This allows us to investigate the static and dynamic properties, temperature dependence, and nonequilibrium dynamics for systems with a larger number of particles than previously considered and discover new phenomena. We show that contrary to natural expectations, the momentum distribution of strongly interacting trapped spinor gases becomes narrower as we increase the temperature and derive simple determinant representations for the correlators in the spin incoherent regime that is valid for both equilibrium and nonequilibrium situations. For homogeneous systems of impenetrable particles at zero temperature, we analytically compute the large distance asymptotics of the correlators, finding that the leading term of the asymptotic expansion is proportional to ${e}^{\ensuremath{-}x{k}_{F}ln\ensuremath{\kappa}/\ensuremath{\pi}}$, with $\ensuremath{\kappa}$ the number of components of the system, which precludes any singularity of the momentum distribution.

Spin-Charge Subordination in the Infinite-$U$ $SU(N)$ Hubbard Chain

Cătălin Paşcu Moca, Ovidiu I. Pâţu, Gergely Zaránd +1 more

We obtain the exact full counting statistics of charge and flavor transport in the one-dimensional infinite-$U$ $SU(N)$ Hubbard model. The no-passing constraint freezes the ordered flavor sequence while the particle coordinates evolve as free spinless fermions. Consequently, charge transfer is governed by a free-fermion determinant, whereas flavor transfer is exactly subordinated to the number of particles crossing the observation cut. For an arbitrary traceless Cartan generator this yields an exact relation between the charge and flavor cumulants. The complete asymptotic flavor distribution is a universal non-Gaussian M-Wright law. Together, these results establish spin--charge subordination as a kinematic mechanism for anomalously slow internal-state transport in one-dimensional impenetrable quantum gases.

Nonequilibrium dynamics in one-dimensional strongly interacting two-component gases

Ovidiu I. Pâţu

The derivation of determinant representations for the space-, time-, and temperature-dependent correlation functions of the impenetrable Gaudin-Yang model in the presence of a trapping potential is presented. These representations are valid in both equilibrium and nonequilibrium scenarios like the ones initiated by a sudden change of the confinement potential. In the equal-time case our results are shown to be equivalent to a multicomponent generalization of Lenard's formula from which Painlev\'e transcendent representations for the correlators can be obtained in the case of harmonic trapping and Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions. For a system in the quantum Newton's cradle setup the determinant representations allow for an exact numerical investigation of the dynamics and even hydrodynamization, which is outside the reach of generalized hydrodynamics or other approximate methods. In the case of a sudden change in the trap's frequency, we predict a many-body bounce effect, not present in the evolution of the density profile, which causes a nontrivial periodic narrowing of the momentum distribution with amplitude depending on the statistics of the particles.

Full counting statistics of charge in quenched quantum gases

Dávid X. Horváth, Colin Rylands

Unless constrained by symmetry, measurement of an observable on an ensemble of identical quantum systems returns a distribution of values which are encoded in the full counting statistics. While the mean value of this distribution is important for determining certain properties of a system, the full distribution can also exhibit universal behavior. In this paper we study the full counting statistics of particle number in one-dimensional interacting Bose and Fermi gases which have been quenched far from equilibrium. In particular, we consider the time evolution of the Lieb-Liniger and Gaudin-Yang models quenched from a Bose-Einstein condensate initial state and calculate the full counting statistics of the particle number within a subsystem. We show that the scaled cumulants of the charge in the initial state and at long times are simply related and, in particular, the latter are independent of the model parameters. Using the quasiparticle picture we obtain the full time evolution of the cumulants and find that although their end points are fixed, the finite-time dynamics depends strongly on the model parameters. We go on to construct the scaled cumulant generating functions and from this determine the limiting charge probability distributions at long time which are shown to exhibit distinct, nontrivial, and non-Gaussian fluctuations and large deviations.
