Abstract

We investigate a spin-$1/2$ anisotropic Heisenberg model on a lattice consisting of two identical bipartite sublattices. A family of exact eigenstates generated by the restricted spectrum generating algebra (RSGA) constitutes quantum many-body scar states, characterized by subextensive entanglement entropy and supporting. These scar states are magnon-pair condensates exhibiting off-diagonal long-range order (ODLRO). At the resonance point of the inter-sublattice interaction, the model exactly maps onto a mixed spin-$1$ and spin-$0$ XY model on a bipartite lattice, which decomposes into independent sub-Hamiltonians labeled by all possible spin configurations. Each spin-$0$ particle is dynamically isolated from its neighbors and acts as a kinetic constraint, giving rise to emergent Hilbert space fragmentation (HSF). Our work establishes an exactly solvable platform in which quantum many-body scars, magnon-pair condensation exhibiting off-diagonal long-range order, and Hilbert space fragmentation naturally coexist.

Hilbert space fragmentation and exact scars of generalized Fredkin spin chains

Christopher M. Langlett, Shenglong Xu

In this work, based on the Fredkin spin chain, we introduce a family of spin-1/2 many-body Hamiltonians with a three-site interaction featuring a fragmented Hilbert space with coexisting quantum many-body scars. The fragmentation results from an emergent kinetic constraint resembling the conserved spin configuration in the one-dimensional Fermi-Hubbard model in the infinite on-site repulsion limit. To demonstrate the many-body scars, we construct an exact middle spectrum eigenstate within each fractured subsector displaying either logarithmic or area-law entanglement entropy. The interplay between fragmentation and scarring leads to rich tunable nonergodic dynamics by quenching different initial states shown through large-scale matrix product state simulations. In addition, we provide a Floquet quantum circuit that displays nonergodic dynamics due to sharing the same fragmentation structure and scarring as the Hamiltonian.

Hilbert space fragmentation in hardcore Bose and Fermi Hubbard models on generalized Lieb lattices

D. K. He, Zihao Song

We study the Hilbert space fragmentation (HSF) in hardcore Bose and Fermi Hubbard models in the framework of the restricted spectrum generating algebra (RSGA). We present a family of hardcore Bose-Hubbard models with repulsive density-density interactions on a generalized Lieb lattice. We show that this system possesses the RSGA structure in the large interaction strength limit, exhibiting quantum HSF. It allows us to construct a set of exact condensate eigenstates, possessing off diagonal long-range order. Based on numerical simulations conducted on several representative lattices, we demonstrate the existence of weak fragmentations when the constraints are not exact. As applications, we also studied the connection between HSF and RSGA in modified fermionic Hubbard models, where the η-pairing states are shown to be energy towers, acting as quantum scars.

Zero-energy quantum many-body scar under emergent chiral symmetry and pseudo Hilbert space fragmentation

Li Zhang, Yongguan Ke, Chaohong Lee

Hilbert space fragmentation (HSF) is a mechanism for generating quantum many-body scar (QMBS), which provides a route to weakly break ergodicity. Many scarred systems possess an exponentially large number of zero-energy states due to the chiral symmetry induced bipartition of the Hilbert space. In this work, we study the QMBS phenomenology under the interplay between the chiral symmetry and pseudo HSF, where the Hilbert space is approximately fragmented into different blocks. We consider a model of tilted chain of interacting spinless fermions with periodically varying tunneling strength. At small tunneling strength, we analytically derive the resonance conditions under which the system is described by an effective model with chiral symmetry and pseudo HSF. We find that the interplay between the two gives rise to a highly localized zero-energy QMBS when the particle number is even. This zero-energy QMBS induces an unusual scarred dynamical phenomenon. Specifically, the fidelity from a simple initial state oscillates around a finite fixed value without decaying, instead of showing the typical decaying collapse and revival observed when the particle number is odd and in common scarred systems. We show that the signature of the unusual scarred dynamical behaviour can also be detected in the original driven system by measuring local observables. Our findings enrich the scar phenomenon and deepen the understanding of the relation between Hilbert space structure and QMBS.

Constructing quantum many-body scars from weak Hilbert space fragmentation

Fan Yang, Matteo Magoni, Hannes Pichler

Quantum many-body scars (QMBS) are exotic many-body states that exhibit anomalous nonthermal behavior in an otherwise ergodic system. In this work, we demonstrate a simple, scalable, and intuitive construction of QMBS in a kinetically constrained quantum model exhibiting weak Hilbert space fragmentation. We show that exact QMBS can be constructed by injecting a quasiparticle that partially activates the frozen regions in the lattice. Meanwhile, the inelastic collision between multiple quasiparticles allows for the construction of approximate scars, whose damping is governed by an emergent two-body loss. Our findings establish direct connections between quantum many-body scarring and Hilbert space fragmentation, paving the way for systematically constructing exact and approximate QMBS with nontrivial spatial connectivity. The proposed model can be readily implemented in neutral-atom quantum simulators aided by strong Rydberg interactions.

Additional quantum many-body scars of the spin-$1$ $XY$ model with Fock-space cages and commutant algebras

Sashikanta Mohapatra, Sanjay Moudgalya, Ajit C. Balram

Quantum many-body scars (QMBS) represent a mechanism for weak ergodicity breaking, characterized by the coexistence of atypical non-thermal eigenstates within an otherwise thermalizing many-body spectrum. In this work, we revisit the spin-$1$ $XY$ model on a periodic chain and construct several new families of exact scar eigenstates embedded within its extensively degenerate manifolds that owe their origins to an interplay of $U(1)$ magnetization conservation and chiral symmetries. We go beyond previously studied towers of states and first identify a novel set of interference-protected eigenstates resembling Fock space cage states, where destructive interference confines the wave function to sparse subgraphs of the Fock space. These states exhibit subextensive entanglement entropy, and when subjected to a transverse magnetic field, form equally spaced ladders whose coherent superpositions display long-lived fidelity oscillations. We further reveal a simpler organizing principle behind these nonthermal states by using the commutant algebra framework, in particular by showing that they are simultaneous eigenstates of non-commuting local operators. Moreover, in doing so, we uncover two more novel families of exact scars: a tower of volume-entangled states, and a set of mirror-dimer states with some free local degrees of freedom. Our results illustrate the power and interplay of interference-based and algebraic mechanisms of non-ergodicity, offering systematic routes to identifying and classifying QMBS in generic many-body quantum systems.

Construction of asymptotic quantum many-body scar states in the SU($N$) Hubbard model

Daiki Hashimoto, Masaya Kunimi, Tetsuro Nikuni

We construct asymptotic quantum many-body scars (AQMBS) in one-dimensional SU($N$) Hubbard chains ($N\geq 3$) by embedding the scar subspace into an auxiliary Hilbert subspace $\mathcal{H}_P$ and identifying a parent Hamiltonian within it, together with a corresponding extension of the restricted spectrum-generating algebra to the multi-ladder case. Unlike previous applications of the parent-Hamiltonian scheme, we show that the parent Hamiltonian becomes the SU($N$) ferromagnetic Heisenberg model rather than the spin-1/2 case, so that its gapless magnons realize explicit AQMBS of the original model. Working in the doublon-holon subspace, we derive this mapping, obtain the one-magnon dispersion for periodic and open boundaries, and prove (i) orthogonality to the scar states, (ii) vanishing energy variance in the thermodynamic limit, and (iii) subvolume entanglement entropy with rigorous MPS/MPO bounds. Our results broaden the parent-Hamiltonian family for AQMBS beyond spin-1/2 and provide analytic, low-entanglement excitations in SU($N$)-symmetric systems.
